Leave a bone for Sally, CGC

Sal, Sally girl, Baby girl, Yellow dog, knobby (thanks to her huge lumpy head), Sissy (as in sister)

Quick Bio:
-purebred-pound dog

December 12th 2001

To play! Running around at high speed, herding squirrels, squeaky balls

baths, nail trims, when other pets try to lay on her, being woken up

Favorite Toy:
squeaky toys, balls, her retrieving "dummy"

Favorite Food:
People food. ;) Doesn't get that too often, but she loves raw, too

Favorite Walk:
ANYWHERE! Loves the "great outdoors" (woods, fields) best

Best Tricks:
She's great with all of them, her best *routine* is to play hide-and-seek using commands :)

Arrival Story:
We had adopted our first dog ever from the Humane Society, but things didn't work out with him as he ended up being aggressive for no reason toward family. We didn't know what to do, though now I know that I could have kept him. :( He was returned (and adopted *phew*) but just an hour or two before we took him back, Sally had also been returned to the shelter. It was love at first sight and we brought her home. I believe she was meant to be with us as the other dog has never shown aggression towards anyone in his new home.

Sally is the best dog. :) She loves other animals and is gentle with everybody and everything. She has a strong nurturing instinct and when she feels another animal is in pain or distress she comes running for us- a la "Lassie". Sally has learned about every trick/command I've tried to teach her and we'll hopefully get her CGC someday soon. She's a beautiful girl and the best "first" dog I could ever have.

Wow, my FIRST journal entry! Mom is always at the computer, I'm so happy she's letting me share today.

I don't even know what to write about! What does a dog write about? WOW I'm excited about this journal. :D :D :D Can you tell!?!?

Well, let me introduce myself. I'm Sallllly but you can 'call me Sal'. Hey, isn't that a song? No? Well, close enough. Anyway... I'm a border collie. Can't you tell? What? Yes, I know I'm yellow. That's ok. Still a border collie. Mom loves border collies. She loves me best, though. She helps out with border collie rescue, at Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue. She says that there are other dogs like me out there who need help badly. I believe her because she worked at the shelter and she would let me come sometimes when she was visiting. I got to meet all kinds of dogs and help mom take care of baby kittens and everything! I love baby animals. But mom says I'm too attentive and I need to leave them alone. I cry and go get her when they cry, because I don't want them to be hungry or sad or lonely. We've had all kinds of animals here, so mom needs my expert help to take care of them! We have all sorts of pets right now. I have a brother, Sammy, and a foster brother, Jack, who are both English setters. They're pretty dogs but not as pretty as ME. They've got spots and I think that's Tacky. Everyone knows that stripes are in these days! Anyway, we also have 8 cats. I like them but I have to keep them in line because sometimes they fight. :( We have one cat, Girlfriend, who is always picking on Salem. I don't know why they can't all get along but I always keep them from getting hurt.

Mom has a pigeon coop outside and some birds in a room upstairs. We're not allowed in the room unless the birds are out, but that's ok. I don't like birds all that much anyway, they flap around and I always think they're going to hurt themselves. I do like the guinea pigs! Mom says that the guinea pigs and some of the birds are "rescues" too, which makes me so proud. My mom helps all kinds of different pets!

Ooh, Jack is done with his raw bone, I'm going to go clean it up some more for him. Yummy. Catch you later!!
