So long old friend

It is with great sadness that we report Sir Michael VI, Mike, had to be put to sleep on July 3, 2007. He was at his favorite place the river. He got to ride the boat one last time. Since neither my husband nor I could take him, our children agreed to help us by taking him to a very compassionate vet. The vet and his assistant were most kind. The vet told our family that we were giving Mike one last gift. That made it a little easier, but still we miss him terribly. Our family was blessed to have had this friend with us for over 14 years.

Amazing

The ole man never ceases to amaze me! Today Mike and Woody decided to get out for a bit. They ventured out of their 1/2 acre fenced area and traveled through the neightborhood to the pond. Making the trip was quite a feat for him. Then he decided to take a swim! The neighbor, Clay, saw him and knew he was not scheduled for a vacation. When Clay called him, he acted as if it was stuck in the mud on the bottom of the pond. Clay went back in his house to put on shorts to help Mike out. Upon returning to the pond, Mike was not visible. Clay thought he had gone down for the last time. Something caught Clay's eye in the next yard - it was none other than Mike, Woody, Precious and Jake visiting Skippy! Clay was most relieved that Mike was okay and also that he didn't have to go in the cold water to get Mike out. However, Clay being the special young friend that he is, would have gone in without a second thought. Just another day in the life of our special ole man - the way he lives so fearlessly, I worry about him. Tonight he had a very hard time getting up to eat. I guess that cold water was hard on his bones. Until next time...

A river boy again! Mike enjoys his morning swims and daily naps on the porch. He is living on the water until November 2006.
