Arrival Story: When our last dog died at 14 years (we still love you, B.J.) I wanted another dog right away but one that looked nothing like B.J. , a yellow lab/terrier mix who was extremely sweet and friendly although kinda funny looking. I wanted a dog who was completely different than him so I wouldn't always compare the new dog with him. I was already familiar with Standard Poodles so I asked my husband if he would mind having one. He said well, OK, but on two conditions: first, no effeminate French name, and second, no topiary haircut!!
Since I am Italian (Sicilian, actually), I chose a Italian name, ROCCO, for him. However, since most poodles have French names, and I live in southern Louisiana where there are many made-up Frenchified words (such as "Geaux [LSU] Tigers"), we decided to spell it "ROCCEAUX". Hence, a Louisianan Sicilian poodle. I'm sure he is the only one!
As a puppy Rocceaux was EXTREMELY active. We would wear ourselves out trying to wear him out. He was kind of manic, running around the house, jumping over the sofa, etc. I had been told that standard poodles settle down at around 18 months of age, so I assured my husband that Rocceaux would be fine then. Of course, 18 months passed and he was still very energetic, so I told my husband that the 2-year mark would be the test. He didn't buy that! He claimed that the warranty was about to expire. Of course he was kidding. Eventually Rocceaux grew to be the great dog he is today.

Bio: You know how dogs are judged in groups such as Sporting, Herding, etc? Rocceaux would win the LOUNGING Group.
Rocceaux often takes rides with me and he likes to ride shotgun, wearing his dog seat belt. He sits straight up and then he's taller than me. We get a lot of amused looks from other drivers.
