Herding

Rain, Rain, Rain

Sigh...it seems like it's been raining forever. And, when it's not raining, it's so hot and humid. We haven't been to agility class, the dog park, herding, or anywhere else really fun for over 4 weeks! I play with my brother indoors, but there's only so much running you can do in a house filled with furniture and other objects that get in the way. We get in trouble when we wrestle on the bed. We get in trouble when we chase the cats. We have learned some cool new tricks, but it's not the same as playing outside. Sigh... We can't wait until the weather returns to normal and we can do all the outdoor fun stuff we used to do.

Guess I'll go take ANOTHER nap.

Herding Trial

My first herding trial is coming up in a few weeks, and I am soooo excited. EVERYTHING about sheep is exciting. I am doing great in class, and everyone says I have a natural instinct for herding. My mom says my eyes light up like a little kids on Christmas morning whenever I get to work the sheep. We don't get to go very often, because it is so far away from home. I wish we could have our own sheep so that I could practice every week, or better yet, every day! I have also been competing in agility, and do all right. My brother is the agility star though. I run in class, but am not as fast at trials...though my runs are usually clean. I'm not as motivated by agility as I am by herding.

My biggest problem is my toenails. I have an immune system problem and my body rejects my toenails. They are popping off again...right down to the bone, and it really hurts at times. My mom is doing everything she can to help me, and we have increased my meds to 3 times a day again. I hate taking them, but if they control my toenail problem, then it's worth it. My mom is worried that I might have to have them all removed. I know it will hurt for a while, but as long as I can herd sheep afterwards, I won't mind too much.

Goodnight dear diary....

Herding

Yippee! My mom has starting me in herding classes at a new place called Alamar Farms. I've been there twice now, and I LOVE IT. I count sheep during the day, I count them at night, I sleep, eat, dream, breath, and live for sheep!!! I was really awesome and made my mom very proud. My teacher was surprised that a mixed breed like me could do such a great job, with so little training. I'm a natural! *twinkle* *twinkle* I just wish they wouldn't try to make me change directions when I have those sheep running in circles. What's the deal with that? And, why would ANYONE ever want to lay down when they could be chasing sheep? I also wonder why they tell me I'm going to 'work' before I'm let loose. Are they kidding? This is so much fun...it can't be called work.

Well, I have to go. My mind is soooooooooo tired from trying to figure out what those humans wanted and how to move those sheep around and around.

Good napping to all!

Bunny Ears, Blah!

Can you believe it? My mom made me wear these silly bunny ears and take TONS of pictures. My brother and I were so good and patient. We didn't even gag, well...at least not so she could hear, when she kept calling us her 'honey bunnies'. And, after enduring all of that, do you think we got anything for Easter? Nope. Nothing. Nada. Sheesh....Happy Easter everyone. (Yeah, right!)

Oh Boy! Mom took me to a herding seminar and I have never had so much fun. I was so excited to see the sheep, and kept whinning and pulling to get into the ring. But, my mom made me wait until it was my turn. They say 'patience is a virtue', but I don't think they were looking at SHEEP when they said that. Finally, it was my turn. I couldn't believe that I was allowed to chase the sheep around. I kept checking in with mom to make sure it was ok, because I didn't want to get into any trouble. (Especially with mom and that other guy holding those sticks!) But it seemed that everything I did was right, because they kept saying "Very Good Dog" to me. WOW...it's GOOD to chase those sheep towards my mom and to circle around them in both directions. I do have to be careful though, because I scared one of the sheep, causing it to jump up and kick my mom in the stomach. (SORRY MOM!) She's ok, and she promised to start taking me to herding classes in January. Woohoo! I slept soundly all the way home and dreamt of...SHEEP!

Is it January yet? Huh? Is it? Sigh...more of that 'patience' stuff I guess.
