Arrival Story:
Haru (japanese meaning spring) was purchased by the idiot daughter of a friend of mine, not knowing anything about the breed, other than they are cute. Had him for less than a week and dumped him with her parents. They already had 3 dogs, including a pup she purchased (the daughter) 5 mos ago. They could not handle another pup, and needed to find him a home. And, that's where I came in :) 10/05 Haru is now 7 mos old, and will be neutered next friday (oct7th). This little man is a HOOT. He is so affectionate and intelligent. But, he does have a bad habit (which I am trying to break)... he BACK TALKS. Yep, you read right. He's very stubborn, but does "obey" commands, but, he has to grumble his way through them. I find it hard-pressed not to burst out laughing when he yaps back at me when I tell him to stay. I know he knows he cute... the little monster.

Bio:
4/14/05 - My little man had his first vet visit today. He weighs a whopping 4.6lbs :) And, I heard the puppy version of the infamous shiba scream. The vet and I were literally rolling, to watch this little furball tilt his head back, open his mouth, and proceed to scream his head off. He was heard all the way to the cashiers area up front at Petsmart. LOL. Oh boy, what fun this little guy is! 10/05 He still does the shiba scream, but not with much conviction anymore. He seems to realize that I am not falling for that "you're killing me" scream. So, it's pretty much half-hearted now, and he soon becomes stoic, (which is even funnier, in my opinion). He' s become possessive, and does not like to share his time with mom... that will soon stop, I can assure you :) He defers to Tessa, as he finally realized she is alpha, but still torments the beagle, until the Sneak calls for backup - ie: Tessa. He may be only 7 months old, but, as with Tessa, I learned early on, if Haru was born with opposable thumbs, I would have been soooooooooooo screwed :) Yes, he is that smart. But, not smart enough to realize if he allied with Tessa, they could rule the world :-D Im hoping he never figures that one out...... On 11/30/06, when my then fiancé, (now husband), arrived home from work, sneaky little PeeWee darted between his legs and was gone in a flash. By the time my fiancé made it up the street after monster, he was met by two women who had stopped and said they had hit a little dog. :( He called me at work, I flew home, and we looked for Haru all night, and into the next morning. Thankfully, the woman down the street found him in her yard under a bush, and took him to an ER vet. My poor PeeWee had a severely broken rear leg. I didn't find him for FIVE days. He had been transferred to the local SPCA, where they were going to hang on to him for 2 days longer, then he would have been put to sleep :(. I bailed him out, and took him to my vet. The ER vet he had been taken to didn't even take xrays, for goodness sake. My vet and I came to the conclusion that his leg needed to go... he had been ambulatory for 5 days on three legs anyway, and besides... I didn't want him to have extensive surgery, then suffer from arthritis later on in life. Having three legs has not slowed this rotten monster down. Two days after surgery, he jumped on the dining room table :) It's now been almost 2 years since Haru's leg was amputated, and it has not altered his personality in the least. Don't feel sorry for him - he's still a brat, but, he is even more special than ever. We do love him....
