My Tail of Devotion for Pepper

So what can I say to my puppy that he probably doesn't already understand. I think he understands my love and my devotion. Here are some things I wished I could convey:

Dear Pepper,

- You are the most coveted dog I've ever met - everyone wants you and loves you because you are so great.
- I wish you knew what an Ewok was because you are a spitting image.
- When you are busy peeing on a tree and I say "C'mon babes" that does not mean you should continue to sniff as if you can't hear me. I KNOW you can.
-My husband (your daddy) and Boo (your cat-bro) are not a threat to how much I love you. Please allow me to show them affection as well.
- I take you everywhere I possibly can - which is quite a few places considering most people welcome you into their home because you are so well-behaved. Do not feel bad when I leave you home.
- I apologize for talking in baby talk to you half the time but I have that annoying tendency when I see something cute beyond belief.
- You are 15lbs and an absolute bed-hog. I attribute this to the fact I spoil you rotten but come on, give the humans some room!
- Staring at someone for an extended period of time will not entice them to give you food if they are set against it.
- You have heartworms which have not gone away after lots of effort and lots of money so please take it easy until they finally die off.
- I wish I could know how you were treated for the first 5 years of your life so I could tell you that you'll never be mistreated or neglected again.

I LOVE YOU BABY!

- Mommy

After two rounds of heartworm treatment, the results came back that Pepper still has heartworms. I've spoken to some different vets and vet-techs and have come to believe that if he is on heartworm preventative pills, whatever worms are left will eventually die and no new ones will come in, so as long as his health isn't affected before then (which it hasn't been yet) he will be okay. Thank God because I am so obsessed with this little sweetie. He is the nicest, most affectionate dog I've ever met. I would think I was biased but many of my friends seem to agree. I just got him his spring hair cut and got a really cute mohawk so he is very punk rock now, even though at heart he is just a boy who loves his mommy!

I am the unluckiest person on the planet.

Pepper has been such a great dog for the past 9 months - I really have seen his health and spirit improve since he's been under my care. Then, after two rounds of heartworm treatment and 4 tests, I find out that he still has heartworms - the only time my vet has seen the treatment not work. Although it all seems fishy to me, I am moving forward with another round of treatment, because hey, what's another $100 when you've already spent almost $1,000. Especially since this little buddy is worth every penny. I'll just postpone trading in my junker car and buying a house with my fiancee another month. Anyhoo I didn't mean to vent. But if you think it's fishy the heartworm treatment didn't work. Please let me know!
