Arrival Story:
Gracie was a rescue. She was in rough shape when we got her, full of worms and really thin. She needed a lot of medical attention, but after a few surgeries and lots of TLC she was a healthy, beautiful, loving companion. We miss her.

Bio:
She lived in Nova Scotia for 4 years then in Ottawa for almost 2. We got her at the age of 7, but were told she was 5 at the time. We would have still taken her, cause I fell in love with her. My husband she that we would make the rest of her life very happy for her and I think we accomplished that.

One day after our beloved Arizona (Great Dane) , crossed the Rainbow Bridge the ad for Gracie appeared. It said Bloodhound for sale, female. My husband and daughter both really wanted a Bloodhound for about the last three years. I on the other hand said no way, no stinking hound for this house.
I was on vacation with my grandparents and I got the call. My husband had just put our big girl down the day before and was feeling all alone, I guess because he was alone at home now , no girls and no pets. He said," You'll never guess whats in the paper" I bit, what? I say.
A Bloodhound!!! OMG!!!! no!! no!!! NO!!! Now I am a very giving person but the day after?? So I politely said "well honey, call the person and just ask some questions about the dog"" It will give us some info on the breed for later.
I think we all know what transpired from here. WE got home from holidays and a few days later we met "the woman " in a parking lot. I thought all Blooodounds were red or brown, not black!! There she was all 70 lbs of skin and bone and her fur was falling out in chunks but she was so gentle. I could hug her around the head right away! ( this was a big plus for me, cause I love to hug my dogs a lot!) I looked at my husband and said " she needs us! Now
!" We took her home that night not knowing what to do. She cried that night missing her woman friend who had locked her in a crate for 12 hours a day, and who never took her to a vet for proper care.
She never cried again for a very long time. I was laid off at the time so she and I became inseparable. She went everywhere with me. The very first time I left her in her crate, she bawled like a baby. So did I. I guess she thought I would never come home. She soon realized that we would never abandon her the way the others did.
She was full of worms and it took us a while to get her into good shape, but she thrived on love and great food . We doted on this girl. My husband said that she " won the dog lottery " when she came to us.
I never dreamed it was possible for a dog to turn my heart to mush, but she did it. She was my girl. I miss her terribly. We got her a puppy named Cleatus in Oct of 2004. Now Gracie did not like any dogs. She was very vocal about that. She did like Cleatus, but he was very cute and such a nuisance. I think she tolerated him well. They played hard together and they both looked forward to play time. Sadly, Gracie was diagnosed with lymphoma inearly January and she didn't last long. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge on January 26,2005. I lost my dearest dog that day, I love her and miss her every day.
Love you Gracie gurl.
