Rita's histiocytoma on her leg has almost disappeared, but it seems likely to leave a pink bald spot!

Rita recently developed a fast-growing lump on her right front leg. Very scary! Fortunately, a biopsy showed it was a histiocytoma, a benign growth. It will have to be watched to make sure it doesn't bother Rita, but for now she doesn't even seem to notice it.

Another Dog Rescued!

I met a newly rescued pup here at work yesterday! Maximus is an Italian greyhound, about 9 months old, bought from a pet store, whose family was confused by his needs - his needs to run and burn off energy! They confined the poor boy to a crate most of the day. But he's just been rescued and adopted by a coworker who's had sight hounds before, so now Maximus will get the fun and play he needs!

Last weekend was a fun weekend for Rita, with greatly improved weather. We took several good walks, met people, and some new dogs! Stella is a lab mix puppy who lives almost at the end of street. She and Rita had a polite meet-and-greet on their walks Sunday. On Saturday Rita got to meet German Shepherd Banks, and they had a good time hanging out and playing a bit, and Rita had some time playing with Waldo next door as well. Down the street, Brownie, one of Rita's dog acquaintances, had a nice visit from her East Coast pal Bean, so the dogs were out, about, and having fun on Como Avenue!

We Loved Daddy

Rita and I are faithful viewers of "The Dog Whisperer," so we're sad to hear of the passing of Cesar's wise and gentle pitbull, Daddy. He was a great ambassador for his breed, and he aided Cesar in helping many dogs. A sad time for us, and all honor and love to Daddy!

Dog stuff on our street

Anabelle, who I've mentioned before as a neighbor dog, has moved to Canada with her family. Waldo, the pup next door, is nearly six months old and so far is much smaller than anyone guessed he would be - he may end up smaller than Rita! A surprisingly dog-tolerant cat has been hanging out in the neighborhood lately and spent most of the weekend sleeping in a chair on our porch, much to Rita's bemusement.

Another New Puppy!

Rita has made friends with another new arrival here in our neighborhood. Luis is a 5-month old merlequin Great Dane, and is wacky and bouncy and loves to play. He and Rita had a great time getting acquainted and played well together. Luis is a very handsome dog indeed; he is primarily white with grey and black markings, and he has one brown eye and one blue. Since Rita can be a bit intimidated by large dogs, it will be interesting to see how she reacts as Luis grows up. He's about her size now, but he'll be considerably taller and bigger in just a few months!

Another Sad Day on Our Street, and a New Dog Arrives!

Bentley, the elderly and very dear mastiff who lived a few doors down from us, has passed away. For all his size, he was a gentle and peaceful dog. Rita found him a little intimidating, but tiny dogs loved to lie down between his front paws and feel protected.

A new dog has come to our street! He lives on the next block down and his name is Otis. He is a little over a year old and is a mixed breed about Rita's size. He and Rita are great friends already!

We had a very scary incident Sunday night when our house was broken into. Incredibly, Rita and I slept through the entire incident! Fortunately, as I have nothing to steal, nothing was taken, and only a screen and a storm window were damaged.

Life - and Death - on Our Street

Rufus, one of the three Westies who live down the street and are friends of Rita's, passed away last week. He had suffered from various illnesses for most of his life, but bore them stoically and kept up his Westie pride. It is believed he was suffering from bone cancer.

But with all the sadness, a new puppy has arrived on our street! Hank is a Boston Terrier, and is 9 weeks old. Needless to say he is very cute and dear and friendly and, like most Bostons, fearless. Freya, a year old German Shepherd who also lives in his house, has adapted to her tiny "brother" well. Hank loves to clamp onto her tail and get swished around!
