My Family Reunion Adventure!

I just had to share my road trip from Maryland to Mississippi with my family for their Family Reunion. It was such an adventure… and so so hot in Mound Bayou, MS. My mom booked us a room at the Hampton Inn in Cleveland, MS and unfortunately, there were no pets allowed in the hotel. Do you think that stopped my mom from taking me in there….HECK NO! Although I do not like being put in my little doggie bag, it was kind of fun being snuck through the side door up to our room. Getting up early in the morning driving up the road so no one saw me having to do my business. The beds are soooo comfy at the Hampton Inn hotels too. It was hard not to bark when I heard people in the hall but I learned quickly not too because my sister would put me in the pop up kennel on the other side of the bed. I do not like kennels so it was pretty easy not to bark when the service staff was in the halls.

We had a great Fish Fry at my mom’s uncle’s house. All open land where you can run and explore without a leash! Mom was a bit skeptical about letting me roam alone but it was nice to be able to walk around at my leisure, no leash and sniff all my cousins and let the kids pet me and oohhh and ahhh how cute I am. I mostly stayed under mom and my sister though. There were 3 Yorkies at the Family Reunion, one of them constantly trying to hump me and I had to put his tiny butt in check! He got the message after a while and went on his merry way!

Well, I just wanted to share my first vacation of the year – looking forward to our annual trip to Chicago. Mom said this time she’s taking me with her. Can’t wait to see my cousin Gia in Steger, and my cat cousin China who is really cool and doesn’t flip out when I come hang at her house. Now my cat cousin Sha’will is a different story. The last time Mom and I visited her brother she stayed on top of the cabinets in the kitchen screaming at the top of her lungs until I departed. Pretty Funny – ha ha ha.

Have a great summer and you will be seeing more adventures of Serge!

Springtime and have to go on a diet!

I am so excited we have longer days and the sun is brite and I get to take longer walks with mommy. I had my annual beginning of Spring visit to the vet and I was shaking like a leaf! I was clinging to my mom for dear life - giving her the "I can't believe you brought me to this dreadful place" look. But it was all over in a matter of time. Come to find out I have allergies (which mommy suspected because she has them too!) and now I'm taking these pills to help me with the sneezing, shaking my head and nibbling on my paws. I am also on a diet believe it or not. My weight was 11.4 lbs, and that is a bit much for my girth. I guess it's all that laying around in the winter and getting extra treats. Well, we are up the street from this beautiful lake that is a mile to walk around the entire thing. We started last summer walking that lake... there are other dog walkers there, bikers, runners, and just folks strolling taking in the beauty of it all. It's really nice and nature makes my mom so happy... but on round two of walking around the lake, mom ends up picking me up cause I'm panting so much :-). We'll be in shape before you know it though and I'm looking forward to our walks together at the lake... maybe I'll make some new friends in the neighborhood that can join me and mom on our quest to drop a few pounds.

Well pup friends... I'll be back soon to post my progress on my weight loss. Cheer for me... cause I know we can do it!

A new friend...

Wow it's been some time since Mum has taken time to post an entry for me. It has been so much going on since my last entry...vacation in Chicago. So let's see where to begin...

My mum works from home now which is really great for me! I like that she is home everyday (mostly when she doesn't have appointments with clients) and I get more than my share of walks now. I get to sit under her desk next to her feet, or in her lap and take a nice warm nap, or behind her chair... sometimes she doesn't know I'm behind her as she rolls back and I jump up running like a bat out of hell! :-) She now looks under the desk first and if she doesn't see me, look behind her chair before rolling.... whew! I'm a toy but not that tiny!

In addition to the new work from home thing... mum has moved us from her place of residence of 7 years. We are still in the same neighborhood which we both love... but now we are closer to a beautiful park with a lake where so many folks walk their dogs, and kids come to play. There is a huge patch of green land behind our place where mum let's me off the leash when there are no other big dogs are in sight (she has this fear that most large dogs will attack small dogs and is very guarded). We live in a dog community and there are many types of dogs we see on our walks. We have yet to see one that is as small as me, and both mum and I will be so excited to meet a pup that is friendly who's my size. Maybe we can have some play dates! So far we are really liking our new home.

Now on to the topic of this entry... for the past couple months mum has been thinking about getting me a play pal. Of course another Silky... she has thought a lot about getting a Yorkie but I think I've won her over completely from the breed she thought she wanted now that we've been together for 3 years. She's been doing some research on the internet and talking to other dog loving friends about where we should begin in our search for a new family addition. If you recall from my bio, mum got me from her sister in Chicago who could no longer take care of me after receiving me for Christmas. Sometimes I'm not sure if I want to have another pup around... as an only child (besides my big human sister of course) it may be a bit challenging to share time, affection and attention with another pup...especially if it's a puppy! I had just turned one right when mum got me so she didn't have to go through the potty training and manners training... her sister had done the hard part :-). She's been really thinking about this, and just maybe by year end I may be sharing with you a new arrival to the family.... a brother to grow with and buddy to hangout with when mom is working and out on appointments!

Hope ya'll had a wonderful Summer! And I promise I will try not to go so long without sharing...

Vacation in Chicago!

I can't believe 2006 is behind us and we are now in 2007!

We did a road trip to Chicago for vacation and arrive the day before New Years Eve... The trip was pretty uneventful. I don't get car sick anymore considering my Mom and Sister are always taking me along... I was so happy that it wasn't below zero in Chicago. I typically go in the Summer so my Mom was pretty prepared with my sweaters, polos and raincoat just in case. Although we did get a bit of rain, the weather was wonderful! Grandma lives near North Lakeshore Drive and I enjoyed walking up to the park... it was a bit chilly and windy so we didn't walk all the way to the Lakefront but I'm looking forward to seeing Lake Michigan this upcoming Summer when we go for our visit.

I also had a chance to meet my new cousin Gia... I put a picture up of the both of us on my page. She is a Miniture Schnauwzer (hope I spelled that right) and she's 7 months. I can not get ready for her activeness.. I don't know if I am so laid back that it got on my last nerve that she was jumping all over me. Not to mention she is 14 pounds... how would you feel if something of that weight was on your back?! But I love her all the same... she is really sweet and very pretty. My mom thought she was a cutie too. I'm looking forward to seeing her the next time I'm in town and she's a bit older.

I hope all of my Dogster Family had a wonderful Christmas/Kwanza/Hanukah/Holiday Season... and that you all have a blessed 2007. I'm looking forward to it!

All the Best,

Serge

One day before Halloween....

My mom has been thinking about buying me an costume for Halloween. We've never dressed up before, so I'm not sure if she'll break down and dress me up and take photo's to post for the holiday. If she does, you'll see some new photos tomorrow.

I don't particularly care for the holiday, and my mom typically keep the porch light off as the kids get a bit scared when they hear me barking on the other side of the door. Although I'm small, my bark is BIG! It gets on mom's nerve a bit too when I keep barking at people walking pass the house too.

More to follow... just wanted to leave a notation in my diary today. Mom is home from work with my human sis today as she isn't feeling well. I've had my morning walk and I've been lounging for the most part... hope to see some cool pictures from my pup pals tomorrow!

My new Groomer Experience

Today my human mom took me to a new groomer. She had gotten increasingly disappointed when taking me to PetSmart because they never kept my cut along the silky terrier look, and they really aren't professional groomers so to speak... so we went on a hunt to find a professional.

Now let me tell you, my mom gets so nervous about leaving me anywhere with strangers. This place seemed to be okay, the owner was very nice and knowledgeable, and the place was quite busy when we arrived. We saw a lot of happy dogs being dropped off, but they were a lot bigger than I. Most of them didn't appear to be purebred breeds... so she is a bit concerned about what I will look like when she picks me up. I'll have to post a picture of my new look once I get home and let you all be the judge. Mommy just hopes that they treat me with the love and attention, affection and care that I am accustomed too. She always has this fear that I will not be treated with care because I can get a bit snappy about getting my nails clipped and I don't listen when asked to be still on the table. What I don't like the most is having a leash put around my neck and chained to something. That is so hard for me :(.

Well, more to come. I hope all my pup pals and dogster family are having a fabulous Saturday! The weather is great this weekend and I can't wait to do my afternoon stroll after mommy picks me up! Catch you later and be on the look out for my new groomer pic from today!

My Tail of Devotion for Serge

Serge,

You are a blessing to me and Wanakee (your human sister) from up above. I was initially resistant about getting you from my sister when she had to find you a new home because I was so stuck on “the breed I wanted instead of the character of you and your soul which was told to me by Wanakee who visited you on more than one occasion at my sisters. What you have brought to our lives is so profound… the unconditional love that you offer is so true and real. Your warm greetings in the morning, all the hugs and kisses you provide and the sincere happiness to see us when we return home from work/school. I am happy that my heart was open to accept you and that your spirit allowed you to accept us. You are the cutest, sweetest, most loving pet I have ever had. I don’t know what my life would be like without you, and I thank God for blessing us to have you be a part of our world. I hope you feel the love that we give to you because your love is truly felt by us.

This is a special Tail of Devotion

Long time... My Vacation.

I'm so sorry to my pup pals and those who have viewed my page that it's taken almost a year for a diary entry. My mommy and sister have been so busy with work/school that they haven't taken time to write down my dictations.

I just returned from vacation in Chicago visiting my old family (my mommy's sister) and hanging out with my aunts’ cat, China. China was really cool and she wasn't afraid of me which was nice! I tried chasing her around the house and she chased me too... it was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to visiting her again around Christmas time.

We stayed with my grandmother (mommy's mom) and she has a huge cat name Bubbles. He is bigger than I am!!! I tried to befriend him, but he sort of hid out the entire time I was there. He only came out when he didn't hear my ID's rattle on my collar, and if he heard me get up to come say hello, he would take off like a mad cat and jump and hide back under grandma's bed. It was pretty funny but I was really happy that Bubbles let me hang out at his house. My mommy was really scared that he wouldn't because he's older and bigger than I am.

My mommy's brother (my uncle) also has a cat and her name is Sha-will. (As you can see I'm the only dog in the family... there are a lot of pussy cats in this family!). She was petrified of me! When I walked through the door she was chilling in the dining room, and when she laid eyes on me she took off into the kitchen, jumped on the countertop then onto the top cabinet! She was about 10 feet off the ground! Of course she didn't come down until I left... I just sat at my mommy's feet until it was time to go.

My last visit was with my mommy's cousin. She has 3 kids and they were so nice. Their names are Jedda, Jorra (twins) and G. Jorra really took to me and she was very attentive and wanted to hold me and rub me. I'm waiting for our cousin Jack to send the photos she took of me so mommy can download some new pics of me. Oh... I forgot to mention that my mom ran back and forth with me in our cousin's huge back yard. That was really a lot of fun... and Jedda and Jorra took me for a nice walk too. I had a great time at cousin Jackies and look forward to meeting her pet when she get's it. She's in the market for a new dog... so it will be interesting when I go back to visit. Hope he is cool and we can become fast buddies and exchange pictures!

Overall, I had a pretty cool vacation. Chicago was really nice, the weather was nice and I enjoyed meeting my cat relatives. Thanks for taking the time to read my diary and I promise I will not wait so long the next time. Hope you all are having a great summer!

Visiting with my buddy Ricco

April 1st 2005 7:56 pm

Today I got really sick. When my Mommy leaves for work and my human sister goes to school, I stay home alone. But, when sister comes home, we both go to hang out with her boyfriend and my buddy Rico who is a Dalmatian. Rico is a pretty bad dude! He likes to chew things up and he also gets into any food items within his reach. Of course, Mommy was still at work and we were hangin out at sis boyfriends, and they left to go rent a video to watch this afternoon. Well... this was the perfect opportunity for my buddy Rico to get into Graham Crackers my sister was eating that was left on the kitchen table and Mr. Rico is big enough to get it! We had a blast with him tearing the box to shreds... and you know I joined in the aftermath of having all those graham crackers on the floor. And we ate them all! I probably had more than Rico.

Now, the downfall to this story is... I only eat dog food. Mommy doesn't give me table food of any kind so my little stomach is very sensitive. At approximately 9:30 p.m. this evening... not only did I empty my belly on Mommy's sofa, I did on the living room floor and under the chair in the dining area! Mommy was upset at my sister because she knows that Rico likes to get into anything and that she left me un-attended in the house with my big buddy. Mommy made my sister clean up my mess and now I'm about to go out for a walk, just in case the rest of it wants to come out on the other end! You know, while I was eating the stuff it sure was good. Hope I remember the aftermath of how I felt if ever in this situation again with my buddy Rico, or any future big Pals that are large enough to reach the table or turn the garbage can over!

Okay... time for bed now. Mommy has things to do in the morning - one of them is walking me. Ciao
