Shenna crossed the rainbow bridge around 3:14 P.M. yesterday, February 28th, 2010. Her head was in my lap with Thomas also at her side. At the end, we praised and loved her as we told her the words she always longed to hear, "You're a good girl, Shenna".

Shenna came into our lives as a foster dog, but she quickly stole our hearts and found her forever home. At age 6, we were her fourth owners. It took a long time for her to believe we would not desert her or give her away.

The hardest part was breaking the news to our son, Jared, who is 10 years old. Shenna has been with him for half his life. His heartbreaking sobs will never be forgotten.

Neither will Shenna.

Rest in peace, girl! We will love and miss you always!

I have now found my forever home!!! I have been living with mom, dad, my human little brother, Jared, who's 5, and my step-brother, Tanner--he's a German Shepherd just like me!! But he's a LOT bigger than me! I'm 70 lbs., and he's already over 100 lbs and only 9 months old!! When I first came here to live on March 18th, 2005, we weighed exactly the same. Boy, do I ever love Tanner! But I especially love Mom!! She lets me give her kisses anytime I want!

I guess I should explain a little. The mean lady I lived with for a whole year before mom rescued me from her would never let me give kisses! And I so love to do that! And when that mean lady brought me to Mom and she saw me for the first time, Mom got down on her knees and softly called me to her. I came up to her and began to tentatively lick her face. The mean lady said, "I don't let her do that." And I remember Mom saying, "Why???". And the mean lady said I ate poop. Mom says that lady is, well, Mom won't let me swear. But Mom said that I don't ever do that!

Now that all those people that never loved me are gone from my life, I never knew I could be so happy! Mom just can't believe that I am 6 years old and can keep up with Tanner, who just turned 9 months old! I love Tanner just like a brother, and we have SO much fun!!!! Tanner gets in trouble a lot, especially for chewing on stuff and barking so much outside. I used to bark when I first came to live here just over 4 months ago, but I don't do it that much now. Mom says I gave Tanner a bad habit. :( But she rarely scolds me. She knows I've had such a rough time.

Mom is such a detective!! She found out that I have lived with 3 other people before I finally found my forever home! And I don't know how she knows so much, but she knows I was left outside all the time and didn't get the love that I should have. Mom never leaves me outside all day like all those other people did. She knows that all dogs need lots of love and attention. But especially us GSD's! Wow, she sure understands me!

I'm finally relaxing now. I used to pace a lot when I first came to live here. And Mom says she thinks I still am waiting for the day when I am abandoned yet again. I think it's true I worry about that sometimes. But with all the love and attention I get from my new family, I"m learning that love CAN be given, returned...and kept.
