Arrival Story:
[Human View] Poe was just a little pup when I saw him, having gone with my parents and younger sisters while they looked into getting a puppy. Being the oldest daughter, out of the house and engaged, my family wasn't looking to get me a dog of course. There were only two puppies left, this little one and his sister who would become Raven. I couldn't let him be separated from his sister! Or left as the last puppy. He was so cute. I needed him, and I was sure he needed me. I needed to approve this with my fiancé, for many reasons, but mainly because the care of a dog would be like the care of a child – both of us would need to be on board. He didn’t think we could take care of a dog. Thinking there was no way he could say no to a picture, I sent him one to his phone. Still the answer was no. And like a grown-up baby, I cried in the back seat as we pulled away from the owners willing to sell me their pup. My father, bless his heart, had the greatest idea. Seeing me crying in the rearview mirror he asks, “If we were to keep the puppy for a few months, would that give you enough time to convince him?” My heart leapt for joy! Of course I could convince my soon-to-be-husband that a dog was a good idea. I’d get him to play with the puppies when we visited my parents – he’d get hooked, I knew it. So we turned around and I traded money for a puppy. I don’t feel like a bought him – but the trade was made anyway. I had a cute little black Labrador sitting in my lap! I hadn’t had a dog in over ten years. He felt so warm and snuggly and I already loved him to pieces. While my sisters came up with a name for their dog, I pondered names for mine. When they settled on Raven, I immediately knew what I should pick. Poe. As in Edgar Allen Poe, always my favorite poet. Dark and moving, and of course he wrote the poem The Raven. Brother and sisters with matching names. Couldn’t be better. Poe will have to tell you stories of his days with his sister later, but I will tell you that the visits my fiancé (now husband) and I took to my parents’ must have worked. When we took Poe home, it was as if Poe had been with us all along. We are one happy family.

Roll over!

Mommy keeps forgetting to help me blog. Saturday I did a trick we've been trying for a while. It's really two tricks: lay down and roll over. I love getting my belly rubbed, so roll over is easy. It's that lay down I don't always get. But I did it really well on Saturday! Mommy showed daddy and I got lots of pets. Life is good.

Mommy just gave me a foam bath. It was scented with pomegranate. I'm not too sure how I feel about that. Mommy says I smell fruity. Oh well. She's promised to help me make more entries soon! We haven't visited here in a while. Time to curl up between daddy and mommy and sleep. Grrrrnight.

Came in from my morning walk to a surprise. With wet paws I couldn't go back to our bed (mommy definitely dislikes wet paws in the sheets) so I stayed in the living room. We decided to check out the Internet and mommy tells me I'm being featured on Dogster's Daily Diary Pick. Pawsome! I feel like I need to step up my game (that's a phrase I picked up from daddy). Maybe when he gets home from the grocery I'll sneak attack him and start one of our wrestling matches. Uh oh, mommy is giving me the don't-be-causing-mischief eye. For now, I'm going to rest. Build up my strength. I'll have something more to post soon. Paw ya later!
