Arrival Story: Meet Garfield! Garfield was dubbed such in the hopes that he would be cat-friendly – and he is! Garfield is a flashy fawn Boxer two year old with two tall socks on his front legs. He has cropped ears that didn’t set quite right – we believe it gives him extra character! His left ear hangs naturally but his right ear is almost perpetually flipped over!
Garfield was resuced from a high-kill shelter in South Texas and is a healthy boy, other than being heartworm positive. He will be treated for them once he's adopted.
This handsome boy is great with other dogs. He engages the older canine in his foster home in play but is careful to respect his boundaries when the older dog is finished playing. Garfield tested cat-friendly, but the cat he lives with is not a fan! Garfield has been curious but has respected boundaries quite nicely. He lives with a five-year-old skin sibling and is very sweet and gentle with him.
Garfield's typical days include 15 minute spurts of wrestling or keep-away with the resident dog, followed by an hour or two of nap time...generally with the other dog in the same crate! He sits on command, especially for treats, and takes food so gently that he keeps his teeth covered with his lips. He is a good watch dog, alerting his foster mom to noise in the street or behind the fence line. If there is an inch of space behind you on the rug when dong dishes or cooking, this boy will find a way to squeeze in there. He is a sweet, sweet boy that would love to be part of a family he can shower with kisses.
Garfield is housebroken and even signals that he is ready to go outside by sitting by the door until his foster mom opens it. He is crate-trained and actually prefers to nap inside it. Garfield walks well on a leash and his leash manners are improving every day. He is a polite gentleman who just wants a place to lay beside your feet. Ask to make this guy a member of your family today!
