Arrival Story:
UPDATE: His pin was removed last week and the sutures were taken out about two weeks before that. Everything is looking good so far but he still needs about a month before he can start using his foot regularly. He will need some rehab to get his muscles back in that leg, basically just gradually increased walks should work for that. He is kid friendly, we went to the Mooyah event and there were a bunch of toddler age children and some older kids, I'd say no older than 8 and he did great with them. They were giving him treats and pets and he just calmly accepted all the attention. Bazinga needs to be watched around outdoor cats, he tried to bite a stray that I feed. He has never had an issue with my cat though. She gets up in his face and rubs on him and he has no problems with it. Bazinga is also very tolerant of obnoxious behavior from other dogs, he met Pepe at Mooyah's and tolerated Pepe sticking his nose pratically up his butt, standing over him and constantly licking him. One of the female dogs there, I'm not sure who, snapped at him and he just calmly looked at her and then moved away. He gets occasionaly bursts of energy and likes to run around the yard with my 3 year old male dog, and he will occasionally rough house laying down. I have left him uncrated while I wasn't home for about 20 minutes and he was perfect. He really despises his crate (barks for awhile when left alone) but I think he has the potential to be left uncrated without supervision if the time is gradually increased. He wouldn't be able to be left for too long just because he does have to pee alot so he couldn't go all day alone. Meet Bazinga! Bazinga is a ten-year-old fawn male weighing in at about 70 pounds who was picked up as a stray in Lewisville, Texas. He has a gray face of wisdom and some road rash on his neck. His foster mom also notes that he has a flashy patch on his shoulder that looks like the Batman symbol. This poor guy came into rescue with a broken foot and an open wound. Bazinga has since had surgery to repair the foot and his foster mom and dad are working diligently to help the wound heal. The foot currently has two pins in it and some sutures to help the open wound heal. He needs approximately two months to recover, but the pins will come out in just a few weeks. His bandages are currently changed daily and the wound is cleaned daily. If his foot does not recover, his leg will need to be amputated, but we are hopeful. Bazinga lives with a younger male canine and a cat. He mostly ignores the cat and gets along splendidly with his furry brother. He has not been tested with small children. This poor guy doesn’t let his predicament get him down; he still is the most calm and relaxed gentleman there is! In fact, he is so relaxed and easy going that his foster parents have nick-named him “King Valium.” They indicate that getting a nub wag from him is about the extent of this gentleman’s excitement! He is a bit of a prince, though, as he likes things a certain way. His foster mom may be in the habit of spoiling him just a bit; he won’t lay on his blanket unless she folds it just so, and won’t eat his dinner unless his mom mixes it just right. But at this stage in his life, he’s entitled to a bit of particular-ness! Bazinga’s favorite activities are getting attention and pets, chewing on cow tubes filled with peanut butter, and going on car rides to visit the vet. Bazinga is housebroken, but tends to drink a lot and thus needs to ‘go’ a lot. He is crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. He does occasionally pull on the leash, but it’s usually when he is in a hurry to empty his bladder. Overall, his manners are very nice. He’s past all the puppy-stages of chewing, counter-surfing, and generalized in-your-faceness. Bazinga seems to prefer men. If he is adopted before he is finished healing from his surgery, he will need someone who is able to spend time with him and see to his daily needs. This sweet guy deserves his retirement home. Are you the one for him?
