Biggest headaches

* screaming while day time crate-training (see details below)
* potty accident once a day

* taken outside to one of two areas (lawn or nearer dirt area near brick retaining wall)
* hourly when possible
* generally pees or poos when taken outside almost immediately
* has accident in the house at least once a day, generally away from kitchen area (at top of stairs leading to garage on rug, rug near sliding glass door, once in our bed, at least once in our bedroom by closet, a few times in living room..)
* living room area has been closed off keeping door closed and 20" height gate purchased for other entry
* seems to know when it's potty time when going outside to either potty areas
* training for potty holding control while crate training needs to continue
* seems to go on average 10 times a day (two poos in the am and two in the evening, two pees in the am and two in the pm at least; one poo and pee lunchtime; and all other times in between

Crate-training nighttime

* after day 3, only brief (a few minutes at most) period of whines/whimpers
* occasionally, no peep at all

Crate-trainining daytime
* bloodcurdling screams lasting 5 minutes straight or more, mixed with shrieks, whines, whimpers, shouting
* protesting since unable to follow us around freely
* tried crating with mochi, didn't seem to help, since wants the freedom to follow us
* hardest thing to teach to remain calm instead of hysterical, hoping fiercely that he will calm down soon

* initial reaction was playing with leash like it was a string, shoelace, toy
* let him drag it around attached to his collar on neck for a few days without incident
* started to balk at resistance immediately when i held other end without budging
* has started to piece together that affixing the leash to collar means leash training to come
* have been able to get him to run with me a few times in circles on backyard lawn with leash attached and me holding other end, but runs like he's trying to avoid going in the path of the leash, like he's sort of trying to run away from it. i try to keep the leash slack, and stay only a foot or two away from him

* eukanuba small dog puppy from petco (petfoodexpress does not carry), upon strong urging from breeder
* generally eats immediately after i put food down in his crate, altho gets occasionally distracted to check out if mochi's fare is more interesting
* initially set aside 1 cup a day, but noticed that he maybe eats at most 3/4 cup a day, so measure that amount now, doesn't always finish his food
* even with 3/4 cup a day, still doesn't always finish his food
* first 1.5 weeks kept him at 3 x a day eating with db coming by lunchtime to feed him, but with decreasing lunch time portions, and increasing breakfast+dinner portions
* now at just 2x a day of kibble
* initially ongoing water availability, but a few days ago started to limit to mealtimes
* on few rainy days, water has been available as puddles outside tho, although i try to prevent him from drinking them after 7 pm.
* water was taken away even during open-water period after 7pm (since have been doing that with mochi this whole time at the latest 8pm usually)
* seems to drink a ton of water though, especially after playing

Obedience training

* some sort of training with treats (wellness puppy) at least a few minutes a day
* leash training, sitting, crate positive association

Big Brother
* after day 1 likes to play with mochi as much as possible
* mochi very tolerant and patient, docile, lets azuki play with him even when he's trying to focus on eating a treat or something else
* sometimes separated mochi from him when a) mochi looked like he really didn't want to play for whatever reason but was too nice to tell him otherwise; b) mochi was getting too riled up; this was for first week, at least

* gave him one bath and trim last weekend
* very difficult to trim squirmy puppy well, i was not that happy with the choppy results of the haircut
* squirmy when cleaning out eye boogers, had db help me hold him at least once so far
* clippers difficult to use on puppy hair, consistently, should have used scissors from the beginning
* seems ok with brushing a few times, esp if not riled up, best to do when tired/sleepy

* sometimes cuddly, but mostly interested in playing at this stage, either with toys, other random items available, chewing on twigs, objects, with mochi
* a big follower from the get go, wants to always be near the family pack
* likes to follow whomever is moving away

First Days in New Home

Day 1: the first 24 hours

I arrived at my new home Sunday night. Everything was new and big and so many things to see! I slept in my big brother's crate that he hasn't been using to get crate trained, for the night, by my brother's bed and parents' bed in the bedroom. At first I cried, so my mom put me in her bed on her chest, and I became quiet and fell asleep. While asleep, she put me back in the crate. In the middle of the night, she took me out to potty, and I cried again when she put me back in the crate, but this time she did not take me out to put me on her bed with her, and I quieted after only about two minutes.

I was still a little growly with my new big brother, because I don't know him and he is a big furry white doggie! I think I'm just reasonably a little scared. I only growled when he tried to play with me or tried to sniff me when mom was holding me.

Day 2: the next 24 hours

By the second night, I was friendlier and not growly with my new big brother! I am submissive, rolling on my back if he tries to play with me.

I fell in the morning on our way to a potty time on the tan bark area from maybe 2' -- I was trying to run after my brother who was running after a squirrel, got overly excited, and leaped off a dirt level and over a wooden retaining wall to the next level down (garden terrace thing) about 2', but didn't expect it and fell on my left arm. It hurt so bad! It freaked out my mom, she was in shock and felt badly all day. I'm all better now tho! Was crying and limping for only less than 15 minutes, I tink.
