Nicknames: Austin Boxer Rescue Arrival Story: Meet Kurtis, the dog who is everyone’s best friend! Kurtis is a small Boxer mix with a tail. He’s currently weighing in at just under 50 pounds and probably needs to gain 5-10 pounds more. Kurtis came from the Texas Rio Grande Valley with four other boxers, and had been deemed a shelter “favorite” who loved everyone he met.
Kurtis recently underwent surgery on his left rear knee to repair a fracture that had healed incorrectly. Now that it’s healing nicely, he should begin gaining muscle and strength in his backend and rear legs. He currently has a bit of atrophy in his backend and rear legs due to the incorrectly healed break and using his front end muscles to do all his work.
Kurtis has yet to meet a dog he doesn’t like; in fact, he is a great candidate if you are looking for someone to take to a dog park. He loves humans as well and is great around children. This gentle guy will fit nicely into almost any household, but should not live with a feline sibling. He adores playtime, whether with another dog or with his toys. Squeaky toys are his favorite and he will try to hours to figure out how to de-squeak a toy! His absolute favorite activity is getting a head rub. This gentle guy slept right through a nail trim the first night in his foster home and only had one accident on the first day he was there and none since.
Kurtis is crate trained, although he likes to make you feel guilty for leaving him in a crate when he’s first placed inside; he gives a few soft whines, then settles right down. He also lets his family know when he needs to potty by whining at the door. Kurtis also enjoys hanging out in the backyard and working on his suntan! This lover is gentle on the leash and takes treats from you very gently.
Kurtis will meld nicely into any family. Ask to meet him today!
