Arrival Story:
I had been looking for a pup to adopt at the local shelter for about 6 months and decided I wanted a small dog that was generally easy to care for. All the dogs that were small were mildly irritating and were much too high strung for me. Then one day in October, I went to the shelter to see who was out because the site had advertised for some new comers. I went to see a small gold mix breed who upon seeing me started leaping on to the cage door and so I asked to see her. They put she and I in a visitation room where there was a couple of puppy beds. She began incessantly chewing on them even when pulled away by the shelter volunteer. I decided against her but followed the volunteer as she put her back. In the same cage was Megan. She sat there quietly and I hadn't noticed her before, as she hadn't made a peep when I walked up originally. I could see her thinking and watching us. She seemed almost scarily smart and I asked to see her. She is a lab/collie and much bigger than I had planned on adopting, but there was something about her nature and her eyes. They put us in a room and immediately she began sniffing around, this was obviously a new room to her (I found out later that I was the first to ever take her out and consider her). After her romp around the room, she came over to me and began sniffing me as I sat still on the floor watching her. She sat in front of me and put her paw on my leg and looked at me. I petted her and she eventually curled up in my lap. I took her to their outdoor park and she took off like a shot; running around and jumping in the pond for a dip, then running back to me, tail and tongue wagging. I knew she was the pup for me. I didn't care about size, breed, or shed ability (which she has plenty of). I became her official owner 2 hours later and she's still my little bullet of joy!
