Arrival Story:
We live in France and had some British friends who owned a holiday home a few miles away. Whenever they were at their holiday home, this bedraggled little terrier used to turn up starving and in poor condition with a thin coat and sad eyes. When strangers approached her she would cower down to the floor and urinate with fear. She 'lived' at the farm next door and was probably used as a cheap rat deterrent or for badger baiting and on hunting forays. The friends used to feed her but were never there for more than a few weeks then had to go. When they sold the house in August 2010 we called round on the last day and saw Pepper there, with a nasty suppurating gash on her cheek, which her owners were obviously not going to do anything about. We suspect it was from a badger confrontation. We just scooped her up and took her straight to a vet surgeon, had her fixed up, wormed, all the vaccinations etc and kept her. She's a different dog now, 2 years later, confident, happy, with a fine healthy coat, though still terrified of guns and fireworks (her original owners would have used her for hunting most weekends). We have no qualms about having taken her. People who mistreat animals lose any moral right of ownership.

In April 2011 we rescued another dog from similar circumstances, her name is Toffee, an Irish terrier cross, and she and Pepper are inseparable buddies now.
