Arrival Story:
Finbarr was the 13th puppy born in his litter he was not expected to make it,so as i had first choice of the litter i choose very wisely and decided to take Fionn home with me at 4 weeks and feed him up myself. (He thrived) We had almost 10 wonderful years together he was my first love and is totally responsible for my obsession with the breed. Once you have been owned by a Doberman there is no going back and i don't think i would ever want to

Bio:
Finbarr was my first love and to to tell the truth i knew little or nothing about the breed, it just so happened a friend of my fathers was looking after his sons dobie he wasn't great with dogs so I took over feeding her and spending as much time with her as i could, I even went to the library to see what see should be given to ensure the puppies and her would be healthy (Finbarr's Mother Ziggy) or her full title Ziggy Star Dust I fell head over heels in love with her, so when the puppies arrived on 23rd December 1976 I was smitten, and so glad it was the school holidays I was the only one she would let near them, all 13 of them that is.as the weeks went on i could see Finbarr was not growing a lot and by that time i had been told i was to have choice of the litter. My dad had wanted me to pick one of the reds, but i had already fallen for Finbarr both John and my dad tried to talk me out of it,and they finally agreed i should take him he would not last more than a few days (he was able to sleep in my hand at the time) and then i could pick a "proper pup" they couldn't understand why i would want to waste time on the runt of the litter i think they just put it down to a childish tantrum. I knew he was for me and nothing was going to stop me from taking him. So as you have seen Finbarr grew into a beautiful strong healthy dobe, had a great temperament and sense of humour he had a thing for buses couldn't walk passed one without getting on, in one door and out the other.when he was 8 years old Finbarr started taking fainting fits when on his lead so i brought him to the vets and was told he had an enlarged prostate and would need to be neutered, but not surgically he said he wanted to do it chemically I was sure the vet knew want he was doing, boy was i wrong he continued this thing with tablets for 2 1/2 months and Finbarr was getting worse he told me he was going to do further tests and who was i to argue with a vet that again i regret as when he finally got round to the xray we found out out he had 7 bones sticking out of his vertebrae and then discover simple surgery would have corrected this as it was a common problem in dobies and great Danes, He only needed to have a pin put in but by the time he found this out it was to late his vertebrae hadput preesure on the spine and that had punctured his kidney and he was unable to do anything I lost him on 15th Feb 1985. I just wish at the time i had taken action against the vet but i was very young the sad thing is my dad told me all along he thought he was wrong, to try another vet and i wouldn't believe him i thought a vet can't be wrong what a mistake i made and i can assure you it has never been repeated. I swore there would never be another dog in my life the loss was just to hard to cope with. So when my birthday arrived a month later my mum and dad thought i should go look at pups what ever i wanted so to be awkward i said i would only have either a great Dane or Irish wolfhound and really i knew i did not want either I just missed Finbarr so much,so a few weeks later a family friend also a dobe owner called he wanted me to go look at a pup with him (for Him) or so i thought "haha", well planned or what and i came home with Boris(Rainbow Bridge Angel)
