Birthday: March 20th 2012 Likes: Play, bones, running, play, bones Favorite Toy: Deer antler Best Tricks: Making her foster parents giggle at her antics Arrival Story: Dorothy is a sweet, adorable and cuddly girl with Hollywood movie star looks. Dorothy is one of the lucky dogs recently transported north by our volunteers visiting the southern shelters we work with. She was found at a rural shelter in Kentucky that doesn’t have the benefit of a lot of resources for their dogs so they were thrilled to learn sweet Dorothy was getting a fresh start in a Rogers’ Rescues foster home.
Dorothy delights her foster parents every single day. This girl may be ready for the red carpet but she is certainly not a diva. She is a bit of a tomboy, quite intelligent, friendly to people/dogs/cats, playful, spunky, curious, and just a little mischievous (as in she’ll steal your shoe but not eat it). She spends a good deal of her time playing with Levon, a foster brother just a little bigger than her svelte 20 lbs. They explore the yard, playfully vie for the same toys and bones, wrestle on the bed, and then curl up together to snooze. Bio: Dorothy is between 6 and 8 months old. It has been suggested that she is a Wire Haired Portuguese Podengo, a breed we had never heard of. After researching the look and temperament, we tend to agree. You can read about this interesting breed here: http://www.podengo-mediogrande.com /
We think Dorothy will do best in a home with another playful dog to romp with. And as a fairly young lady, she won’t be happy spending a long day in a crate – although she happily sleeps in one all night long without a peep. So a family where she will have canine and human company and plenty of chances to run in a fenced yard, dog park or doggie daycare will be the best for her.
Dorothy is spayed, up to date on all her shots and preventatives, and ready to find her forever family. If you are looking for an energetic companion for your playful dog, please consider meeting Dorothy. She is being fostered in Langhorne, PA (Bucks County).
