Chasing the hose, going to the beach, demanding head scratches, herding things that aren't meant to be herded, hoarding toys in her bed
Thunder, Fireworks, the mailman
Nylabone, Floating Tennis Ring beach toy
Carrots, beef scraps
She actually hates walks!
We first got Zoe in 2001, 3 years after we lost my parents first dog, Millie. Adopted from Bristol RI, she was the perfect combination mix breed: She has all the smarts of a Border Collie, and all the love for swimming and fetching that comes with the Labrador territory. You could really call her my first dog; while Millie had around for most of my life at that point, I wasn't a part of adopting or training her. My parents let me pitch in deciding what dog to adopt, and my choice was Zoe. When I first got her, I wanted to name her Nebraska (because that was where she was flown in from as part of a program to get puppies from overcrowded areas to other places where they are in high demand)! Fortunately, my dad came up with a different name and it stuck.
She's now 11 years old and getting up there in years, but she still has a lot of spunk, which she demonstrates whenever the mailman comes around. And as ever, her favorite thing in the world is swimming at the beach.
