Arrival Story: After doing several months of research and going through a failed adoption, my husband and I were close to despair that we would ever find the right dog. Then, one of the rescue sites we frequented posted about Leia.
Leia, then called Leena, had grown up in a loving family after being adopted as a pup. This family loved dogs, and often fostered for the rescue, but with the arrival of their second toddler and caring for their first, older dog, the family had realized that Leia needed more attention than they could provide for her. They tearfully posted her for adoption with the intention of screening every applicant themselves, to make sure that she got the home that fit her best.
We made our interest known to the family, and set up a meeting at their home. As soon as we walked in the door, Leia (normally a shy, timid girl) walked right up to us and sat in front of me, head in my lap, demanding pets. It only got better from there. We knew we had found the right dog - she was calm, quiet, well-trained, of moderate energy but serious athleticism, and was absurdly good with small children. We made an appointment to set up the adoption the next day, and despite competition from another interested couple, we walked out with the dog of our dreams, our sweet Leia girl!
