Update: All five strays have found loving homes thanks to the Animal Rescue Foundation in Beacon, NY! On 9/14, I drove down quiet dirt road in rural Alabama after responding to a desperate plea over craigslist to help four puppies starving on the street after their owners moved out, abandoning them. A caring individual with limited resources was trying to keep them alive by helping in the only way she could: giving them discarded bread from behind the grocery store while posting them online hoping someone could help. When I arrived, I found not four pups, but three - and their mom and dad. By networking with northern rescues, I've secured this family a place in a no-kill private rescue in New York. Once the family is healthy - they were all underweight and heavily parasitized, and also need spay/neuter - they will be sent on their way. From starving southern strays to lucky northbound hounds, these five dogs are ready to start their lives as loved members of a household - will it be yours?

Rescuing five dogs out of pocket is no small tasks, and the Family of Five has needed a lot of work due to their condition upon rescue. Add to this the approaching cost of their spay and neuter, and transport from Alabama to New York, and these priceless pups are racking up quite the tab.
