Arrival Story:
We adopted Gracie Sept 8th from our local animal shelter. We were told she was there for a little over two weeks, but were unable to give us any background information other than she is a Kelpie mix.

We have only had her a short time, but Gracie has already dug herself deep into our hearts. She gets along famously with our beagle (also a rescue dog), and even our cats. She has the sweetest personality, and is soooo smart, and eager to please. I am so blessed to have two wonderful dogs.

Well it's been a while since we have posted any updates but heres a good one. :D

We decided we wanted to find out Gracies breed really is. When we adopted her they said she was a Kelpie mix. I always thought that was wrong. There have been so many speculations and guesses with everyone she meets. Everyone had a different opinion. lol Some of them included:
weimaraner, vizsla, doberman, boxer, pitbull, chocolate lab, great dane, greyhound, and whippet. The vet thought she was lab/greyhound. I think it was because when we got her she was really skinny and it kind of looked like the physique of the greyhound.:)

Well the results are in. Gracie is a Weimaraner Rottweiler mix crossed with a Bull terrier/mixed breed. Of the mixed breed cross there were genetic markers identified that most closely matched Saluki 18.45%, Labrador retriever 7.48%,Smooth fox terrier 4.89%,Bulldog 4.57%,and Shiba Inu 4.56%.

So. Most of us were wrong on her breed. lol But it's really fun to know her heritage. :)Whatever she is, we love her to death and shes one of the greatest dogs ever. We couldn't have asked for a better dog if we placed a special order with god. :D

She has almost doubled in size, going from 27lbs when we got her to a whopping 55lbs now. She is a big bundle of beautiful clumsiness. lol

Today Gracie had her second in series vaccinations for distemper and lepto. She went thru it like a champ. No crying, no wiggling or anything. She's just awesome. Everyone said how pretty she is, and she hammed it up!

This was her first visit to our family vet. The vet said she is in tip top condition, her incision looks great, heart sounds great, no fleas, and everything looks awesome. Yay! I asked what her opinion is on Gracies breed without giving her any clue as to what we were told. Her guess is Lab and Whippet. Interesting! Then I told her what the animal shelter listed her as. And she giggled and said, wow well you don't see those very often, and she doesn't see anything that would make her believe theres Kelpie in Gracie. She suggested that if we are really curious we try the Wisdom panel dna test, so we decided we will be doing it. It will be nice to know whose guess is the closest. Maybe we will get a little wager going and see who wins! :)

All in all it was a happy day, and Miss Gracie is resting fine and recovering from her shots. So nice to have piece of mind that my new baby is healthy

Gracie is definitely a part of the family. :)

She doesn't like to be crated at night, she cries like mad. She really sounds like she is talking! Rawrr rooo roooooo rahh owwwwww I'm gonna have to record it sometime. :) It makes it really hard to make her go in her crate for the night, she looks so sad. But her crate potty training is going awesome. Not a single accident in the house yet (knocks on wood). lol

Her incision is healing up really well. No redness at all, and she hasn't been licking herself or bothering it so no cone for Gracie so far! Yay! I can't wait until she is fully healed. So far she has not been able to run and play in the back yard or fully get to know her new brother Edward. They have had small get togethers, but they usually end up in too much excitement and rough housing so I have to end it to make sure nothing happens to Gracies incision. I don't want her to get hurt, so no playtime until she is fully healed. 9/20 is the two week mark, so we are counting down until then! The vet said she should be good to go by then, so she can have a MUCH NEEDED BATH and run and play with her brother. :)

Tomorrow we visit the vet again to get second round distemper vaccinations. We will also ask our family vet what breed she thinks Gracie is. I ordered a doggy dna test from wisdom panel so maybe that will give us some little clue as to her heritage. :D I'm now leaning towards lab/doberman. I've been looking soooo much on the net to find pics that look like her, and that's the closest I have come so far to finding a doggy that looks like her. :) That's my guess and I'm sticking to it. We shall see if I'm correct or not in about a month I guess. hehe

I can't believe how easily she has transitioned. The final hurdle, and biggest question mark now, is how she and Eddie will get along once they are able to both be together full time. I hope I am prepared enough for the power struggles and establishment of pecking order. There have been a few snarls and growls already, but no cries or nips that I noticed. I hope that continues and they grow to love eachother. Hopefully Eddie can get used to sharing the spotlight. He has been an only dog for over a year now. The best word for him is SPOILED :D Heres hoping it all goes smooth and they will end up bff
