Arrival Story:
After loosing our beloved "Bella". We saw how much our other dog China missed her and needed a companion again. We actively went out looking and looked on all of the adoption websites. Finally, after quite a bit of searching, we found this little picture of an adorable little border collie mix at the Ojai Humane Society. It was about 2 hours away, so we had to be sure. We looked at many other dogs but none of them had that certain spirit that was missing in this house, the kindly and loving spirit that Bella brought. Finally, we traveled the long journey to Ojai. It was beautiful out there and their humane society was so wonderful that I asked them it I could stay there. We saw Spyro who was then called "Daffy". Daffy was originally listed as a female which is what he actually looks like. He was as sweet and frightened as he could be. He was brought there from a Riverside kill shelter. He had only been at the Ojai Humane Society for 1 week, then he worked his way into our hearts. We put in our application after showing them our yard and were dismayed to find out that he already had another family who wanted him. They were nice enough to look at our application and offer us first chance since we were approved and had traveled so far. Two days later we brought China and our nephew up to Ojai to see how things would go. China was not happy, but was fairly tolerant of him, and he was fantastic with our nephew, so we leashed him up and attempted to bring him home. He was so afraid of the car though that he slipped out of his collar and ran back to the humane society. After that it was a slip collar until we could get a martingale on him. Finally after one very frightful day and night, he settled into his new home with his new sister. A week of unhappiness on China's part and things are finally starting to come around. They play together and he loves his toys. I think China will be glad to have Spyro as a little brother.

Spyro went through a myriad of names before we settled on his permanent name, since people said that he didn't look like a "Daffy" (besides, he didn't know that name anyways)!! Both my wife and I are video game enthusiasts, and he looked a bit like a lovable purple video game dragon named "Spyro" which became his name. Besides, we looked up the meaning of "Spyro" and it means "Spirit" in Greek. Spyro seems to share much of the spirits of both of our and our friend's dearly departed dogs, Darby and Bella so the name became much more meaningful to us. It even brought tears to our eyes.

So it has been a few weeks since my last post, and well...

Do you remember that puppy that came to visit??

Last night, the keeper of the little puppy called and said that she had been fixed (whatever that means, hope they don't do that to me) and was ready to be picked up from the dog rescue.

We picked up my dad's niece and traveled out to a city called San Dimas. We waited and waited and waited at a Starbucks there. We later found out that the rescue lady was stuck in traffic and then got lost.

Mom and dad moved the car across the street to a lighter location so she could see us. "Why? just let her continue to be lost!!"

"Oh nooooo!!! she's here!!!! and with the puppy too!!!!!

Well, I guess that I'd better say hello and welcome her to the family (dammit!!)

Oh WOW, A CAT JUST RAN BY!! HOLD ON FOR A MOMENT WHILE I DRAG DADDY ACROSS THE PARKING LOT TO GO CHASE IT because that's what we dogs do... we chase cats... stupid cats.

Oh well, remain tuned in to my blog to find out how things go with crazy puppy.

So today, a little 3 month old puppy came to visit. I think her name was Shenzi, but I'm not sure. She had sooooo much energy!! She loved to run all over the yard!! I'm not sure about her yet, but okay, I'll play with her!! Woo hoo, she is fun to play with, but she tends to run by and nip at me. I don't like that, but she sure does keep on playing. I don't remember, was I like this as a puppy?

Okay, a little reprieve as mommy has picked up the puppy and is cuddling it, she's not thinking of adopting it and bringing it here is she??

I'm not sure how that would go, but for now I'll play with her.

Well, it has been a little while since China passed away and now I am the only dog in the house. I thought I would mourn my loss of China for a long time, but you know what? I actually kind of like getting all of the attention from my humans. There is no competing for attention. I just walk up and BOOM, there it is, lots of love and attention, which I absolutely LOVE!!

However, I do miss the play times with China. Sometimes I wish to have another dog around here to play with, but for now I'm the Top Dog!!
