Sun Sign: Quick Bio:
 Birthday: July 16th 2002
Likes: Cuddling with mommy, chewies, walks

Pet-Peeves: being brushed, being humped at the dog park

Favorite Toy: Harley Davidson plush bone that makes a harley engine noise when you squeeze it... absolutely perfect blind dog toy... found it at the local harley shop

Favorite Food: whatever mommy is eating.

Favorite Walk: anywhere with mommy, to and from the car, mostly

Best Tricks: giving paw... navigating new surroundings

Arrival Story: Adopted him from a woman who, between the divorce, the custody battle, and the unemployment, couldn't properly care for her 2 dogs anymore the way they deserved to be cared for. Found him on a website, took him for a test drive on Easter Sunday 2003, had him ever since. =) He was 9 mo. old.

Bio: Certified by the AKC as a Pet Therapy Dog. Visited nursing homes and hospitals to bring joy to people when they see "Lassie" coming down the hallway. Diagnosed March 2005 with Collie Eye Anomaly, Uveitis, Detached Retinas, and Glaucoma. Went blind within a week. Now he has a seeing eye mommy. =)
This has NOT stopped him from enjoying his pet therapy visits and his dog park time.
UPDATE: May 2005 - Sam's retinas are apparently reattached... 1st opthamologist misdiagnosed and didn't medicate enough so his eyes got really bad, glaucoma, turned neon blue... but when I moved down here to DC, I chose a board certified eye specialist in Arlington (Dr. Nancy Bromberg at Southpaws Vet Specialists) and she medicated him with oral meds and eye drops and within a week his glaucoma had gotten under control and he has continued to get better!!! Its fantastic. She saved my boy. =)
She said his retinas are 'reattached' and there is 'some' vision in Both his eyes (not functional but minimal sight, which is great anyway)... good news and hopefully it'll continue to be good news. =)
Update: Sept 2007 - Sam is doing FABULOUS. He quickly masters his surroundings, continues to snoop into garbages, will chase me in a field, plays with toys, like racquetballs and squeakies, and tug of war. He is a pleasurable houseguest because he's so ginger and slow and the opposite of hyper. =) He is a gentleman and a magnificent creature, his blindness has not changed him one bit... He is just precious.
