Jumping. She could really jump high. My mother wanted to show someone how high she could jump and stood on a chair and raised the toy above her head. She held it in front of her and Unteese jumped, got the toy and knocked my mother off the chair.

Arrival Story:
Unteese was born 8/14/1966 and was 10 months old when I got her. I was living in the country and someone tried to break into my apartment the first night I moved into it. The phone wasn't hooked up yet so I couldn't even call anyone. Believe me I was scared because this guy was trying to knock the door in! My neighbors told me the next day it probably was the girl's boyfriend who had lived there before me. I decided to get a dog for protection and told people at work. One of the research scientists in the laboratory said he had a German Shepherd/Collie mix that he had to find a home for. While his wife was visiting her parents he let her sleep on the bed and they couldn't break her of getting on the bed and his wife demanded she be chained up in the backyard. She proceeded to dig a hole that was the best I have ever seen! When I went over that night to get her I climbed down into the hole and it was above my head! I am 5 ft. 1/4 inches high.

Bio:
Unteese had a large doggie bed I placed at the foot of my bed the first night. In the middle of the night I turned over and my arm hit this hairy thing and all I could think of is that guy had broken into my apartment and believe me, I was so scared I couldn't even scream at first. Then I did and Unteese jumped up. I forgot I had a dog! After that I would always wake up and Unteese would have her head on the pillow next to me, all stretched out on her side. She could get on the bed so carefully, I couldn't even feel the bed move. I finally gave up. The next day I took her out to see my parents and they were not home. The people who owned her before me forgot to tell me she didn't like cats. My parents had my cat, Peter. When she saw him, she went after him. Somehow I got Peter first and tried to get back into the house but the door stuck. Unteese came up on my left side and Peter used my face as a launching pad to get away. One deep scratch between my eyes wouldn't stop bleeding and the pastor saw my car, stopped to say hi and rushed me to emergency. I ended up with a badly swollen face, a broken nose, 2 black eyes that came down almost to my lower jaws and a number of severe scratches on my face requiring stitches. The previous owner felt terrible when he saw what had happened to me. They just forgot to tell me. After some training she would leave the cat alone but she would literally eat anything if she thought the cat wanted it. Unteese was very loyal and my best buddy during those years. My Mikhah reminds me of her with some of his antics he does. My Unteese lived 15 1/2 years. She had severe arthritis from a hip injury when she was jumping a 6 ft fence and somehow she got caught in the fence by her hip. The state workers got her down and we took her to the vet. She developed arthritis years later and was suffering from heart attacks. It was a sad day when she went to Rainbow Bridge while I was in college. She was always so excited to see me and I miss her dearly. The picture above is when I took her fishing with me on the Ausable River, Wilmington, NY in August 1971. She had a great time that week in and out of the water and I sadly never caught any trout but I have some great pictures of Unteese to remember her by.
