DAY 645, Friday, 12/13/13

Since Bob has been unsuccessful in preventing me from chewing on that boo-boo on my tail, he finally resorted today to putting one of those Elizabethan collars on me. I hate it, but he says it’s for my own good. He says the boo-boo will heal if I just leave it alone. Well, maybe, but just wait until he has a boo-boo on his tail and see what I do to him!

Great news! One of my compatriots has been named Australia’s Dog of the Year! Though I’ve never met Crumpet, he’s a service dog like me, so I feel a certain kinship with him. You can read about Crumpet’s success at http://www.dogslife.com.au/dog-news/dog-of-the-year.

Remember when I had that boo-boo on my tail a few weeks ago? Well, when Bob took me to the new groomer last week, she irritated it, so naturally, I chewed on it again, and it got right back to where it was before it started to heal. Bob tried that little trick that Dr. Romans in Flagstaff taught us: wrapping a thick towel around my neck to keep me from reaching my tail with my mouth. Of course, neither of them counted on my resourcefulness. I managed to wriggle out of that contraption in less than 24 hours. Besides, it was a pink towel, and The Biscuit does not wear pink! I have a reputation to uphold.

Bob insisted that I tell everyone to go look up this video: http://youtu.be/ZDZaWgf_bk0. It’s about a great big cat, not a dog, so I don’t know what’s such a big deal, but Bob said that the humans would love it even if we canines don’t.

Bob had planned to go into the city (Pittsburgh) tonight, but I talked him out of it. The weather was just too bad to be on the roads. Thank goodness he listened to me—for once.

We didn’t get as much snow as I had hoped, only 2-3 inches, but it was fun anyway. On my first outing of the day, I discovered deer tracks across the yard. Bob wasn’t sure what made the tracks, but my superpower nose told me it was deer.

Later, I made snow angels. I’m very good at that. After all, who would know better how to make snow angels than a snowy white angel like me?

Yippee! It’s snowing! We’re supposed to get between 3 and 5 inches tonight. There’s only one thing in the whole wide world that I like more than snow and crickets. Yep, hunting for crickets in the snow.

I managed to drag Bob to the barber shop today, but they didn’t cut his hair as short as either of us liked. I guess we’ll just have to find him a new groomer.

I went to the beauty shop today and got all gussied up. Bob was supposed to get a haircut at the same time, but he fiddled around at the mall and never got to the barber shop. I’m going to have to insist that he go tomorrow, though, ‘cuz he’s so shaggy now that some of my pals are starting to question which one of us is the dog.

Yesterday I posted a little story that a pal of mine sent me. There is a second part, which I am posting below.

Remember, if a dog were the teacher, you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
