DAY 688, Saturday, 1/25/14

8:10 a.m.
Well, it’s snowing again. It has not snowed heavily, but we’ve been getting light snow just about every day for a couple of weeks now. Altogether, we have about 6” out there, more, of course, where there are drifts. It’s almost deep enough now for me to really dive into.

It’s funny watching Bob try to climb the hills around here. With my paws, I have absolutely no problem, but even with his snow boots, Bob sometimes can’t get traction and goes slip-sliding away. I wish I had a camera.

I want to thank all of my fans and pup pals who have sent me messages expressing their dismay at the prospect of losing my diaries. I’ve told Bob to start looking for ways to keep the diaries going. I’m not sure yet what we’ll come up with, but we’ll keep working on it and let you know. :-)

It got a lot colder today, for Bob anyway. He said that when the wind hit his face, it felt like he had fallen into a lawn mower at full throttle. As a linguist, Bob knows, of course, that that kind of talk is what humans call “hyperbole.” We canines have another word for it, but I’m too much of a gentleman to use it here.

For the past few days, the temperature has been cold enough for me, but not unbearable for Bob. We’ve had light snow off and on with an accumulation of about two inches, just enough for me to make snow angels. Tonight, though, it has started to turn colder as we head into another arctic blast. It’s supposed to be below zero again tomorrow night, and we’re supposed to get 2-4 more inches of snow. Bob stocked up on groceries and filled the gas tank this afternoon so he won’t have to go out for a couple of days.

We just learned that Dogster will be shut down March 3. That means there will be no more profiles and no more diaries after that date, and what’s already posted will be removed. I feel bad for all my loyal readers who count on reading the diary regularly, but Bob says we should look on the bright side. He says this may just be the universe’s way of telling us to make room for better things to come. If you ask me, Bob’s been sniffing too much catnip.

I went to the vet today for my annual shots. I got two injections and didn’t even wince either time. The vet was very impressed. He was nice—not as nice as Dr. Romans, of course—she’s still my favorite—but he was nice anyway. All the employees in the clinic just had to come by and pet me. They all wanted to give me treats, so, naturally, I obliged them.

Wow! I don’t know what I did to deserve all the gifts I’ve gotten these past few days from all of my pup pals, but I sure do appreciate them. Thanks, guys. You’re all top dog in my book.

Regarding my possible move to Arizona, my pal Charlie in Australia wrote, “Crikey that will be a big change in temperatures for you won't it?????” (I just love Charlie’s accent, don’t you?)

Well, Charlie, yes, but that would be nothing new. You see, Bob and I were both living in Texas when I rescued him. It was very hot there, so Phoenix would not be very different.

We’ve been chatting with Alex today, and it looks like Bob and I may be flying down there early next month to check things out. Keep your paws crossed.

Up and down. Up and down. Up and down. It’s been a bit of a roller coaster these past few days. Bob and I asked our friends in Arizona to be on the lookout for a room to rent, and one of our buddies, Alex, replied that he has a room in his house he would consider renting. Everything looked great until we found out that Alex has cats. Of course,
I welcome having some furry little friends to play with, but Bob is very allergic to cats. So, it looked like the deal was off when Alex replied that his breed is hypoallergenic and that most people with allergies don’t really have a problem with that breed. I suggested that we fly down there for a week and see how it goes. If it works out, then we move; if not, at least we will have had a week’s vacation. Stay tuned.

It was -8 degrees when I took Bob out for our first walk this morning, but the wind chill factor was only -22, not quite as bad as projected. And it got a lot warmer as the day wore on—all the way up to -1.
