DAY 262, Sunday, 11/25/12

It was much too beautiful today to stay inside (60 degrees and sunny), so I convinced Tony and Bob to take a little excursion down to Lake Mary (about 15 miles south of here). It was a wonderful trip, and I got plenty of exercise walking down to the lake and back up the hill. We also drove farther south to Mormon Lake, but there was no water in the lake. Apparently, a small earthquake hit the area about 15 years ago, and all the water drained through the fissure. The views of Mt. Humphreys as we drove home were spectacular, though.

I really enjoyed being Dogster’s Dog of the Day today. I got several new pup pal requests, rosettes, and even a couple of gifts. Thank you, Dogster.

Today was such a beautiful day, I was hoping that Bob and Tony would take me out for a walk at the lake, but Tony was busy making sweet potato bread. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any of that either. Phooey.

Today was Bob’s birthday. I’m not really sure what that means except that he got to go out a lot and didn’t take me with him. I guess birthdays are occasions for humans to be selfish.

We came home from Prescott today. It’s nice to go away, but it’s even nicer to come home. I’m thankful that I have a nice home and people who love and take care of me. As Bob likes to say, “I’m thankful not so much for what I have as for what I am able to give.”

I told you I smelled a road trip coming up, and sure enough, Tony, Bob, and I drove down to Prescott today to spend Thanksgiving with Tony’s goddaughter, Mary Ann. You may recall that I met Mary Ann when she went to San Antonio for a conference. I enjoyed seeing her again and meeting her husband Art, but mostly I was intrigued with their two cats. I wanted to play with them, but they were kinda standoffish. I guess they didn’t quite trust me, though I can’t imagine why not.

So, today was what the humans call Thanksgiving—the humans in this part of the world anyway. Tony and Bob went to dinner with all the people in Mary Ann’s co-housing community. I had to wait behind at the house, but at least I got to sit out on the patio and watch the world go by.

My new buddy Dennis and I had a great time last night. We curled up together in front of the fireplace. He left for Las Vegas this morning. I miss him already, but I’m hoping that he’ll come back again soon—or maybe I’ll get to go visit him in Las Vegas. That would be nice too.

And speaking of traveling, Bob came home today with one of those Styrofoam coolers. Hmmm. Sounds like maybe a trip coming up, huh?

A friend of Tony’s (Denny) came to visit today. He’s moving from Atlanta to Las Vegas and is spending the night here. He and I hit it off immediately. He’s an excellent judge of character.

Today was the day for my flea pill. I only take it once a month. Bob, on the other hand, takes a whole handful of pills every day. Boy, he must really have a problem with fleas.

Bob is such a wuss. Every morning when we go out for our first walk, Bob piles on about 37 layers of clothing, including his thick winter coat that makes him look like the Michelin Man. One coat is plenty for me. What’s he gonna do when it gets REALLY cold here?

There have got to be crickets here somewhere under this frozen ground. I just know if I keep sniffing and digging, I’m bound to turn up some eventually.

[Singing]
I feel pretty
Oh, so pretty
So pretty
And witty
And bright.
[Music fades]

I went to the beauty shop today and got cleaned up and fluffed up. In my Pawgress Report Card, the groomer wrote, “Biscuit did very well today. He is a sweet boy.” Now, that’s one perceptive groomer. I hope Bob gave her a big tip.
