DAY 296, Saturday, 12/29/12

I love Tony and Bob dearly, but sometimes they can be so cold-hearted. Tonight, for example, they ordered pizza and wouldn’t share it with me. Even when I looked up at them with my poor, pathetic little puppy dog eyes, they still wouldn’t share. I just don’t understand. I’ve always been willing to share my crickets with them.

Thanks to the Dogster folks who made my diary a Pick of the Day again today. I appreciate it. Maybe someday I’ll win a Pawlitzer Prize.

Bob seems to be constantly surprised at my powerful sense of smell. No matter how deep the snow gets, I can sniff through it to find hidden treasures. (Of course, they are treasures that Bob usually doesn’t want me to have, but that’s another story.) Tony says that Bob has a strong sense of smell too, but somehow I don’t think he means it the same way.

It snowed again today—not much, but every little bit helps. Bob took me out to the little valley between our apartment complex and the sidewalk and let me run through the snow on the long leash. I had a great time burying myself in the snow and digging my way out again. It was loads of fun.

Merry Christmas! Tony was right: Santa did bring me lots of presents last night. I got dog biscuits, jerky, and dental chews. Bob and Tony got presents too, but none of theirs were as good as mine. Santa obviously knew who had been naughty and who had been nice in this household.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas….

It snowed again today—just in time for Christmas. Santa is supposed to come tonight. I’m really excited because I hear that he’s going to leave lots of goodies in my stocking. Maybe he’ll even leave a few things for Tony and Bob too.

I went to the groomer’s today. I didn’t mind the bath, but did they have to spray that silly sugar-cookie perfume all over me? I think that’s animal cruelty, don’t you? Maybe I’ll file a complaint with the Humane Society. Besides, if anybody in this house needs perfume, it’s Bob, not me.

I got a nice E-mail message from one of my fans today. She wrote, “Biscuit, I really enjoy your comments on life. You seem to have the right attitude, and all (four) feet on the ground! Wish you could run for public office. I would vote for you. (As long as it wasn't for dog catcher!)” Hmmm. Congressman Biscuit. Has a nice ring to it. I couldn’t possibly do any worse than some of those guys in Washington.

Bob washed my regular leash today, so when I had to go out, he took me on the long 25-foot leash and let me run in the little yard in front of our apartment complex. I had a grand time because that area is a little valley, and the snow is piled very deep there. I almost got lost in the snow. We’re supposed to have more snow on Monday.

This afternoon when I was out walking, Bob and I came across a couple of little kids with their mother. I walked up and said, “Hi,” to the older girl, and the baby got jealous, I guess, so the mother set her down and let her pet me. I kissed each of the girls and let them rub my belly. Kids are so nice.

When Bob took me out for my first walk of the morning, it was -1 degree. Yes, that’s 1 degree below zero. Before going out, Bob wrapped a red blanket around his head and then pulled the hood of his heavy winter coat over that. I was so embarrassed. I just hope nobody saw us together.

Tony said that every time he walks out into the cold, he just reminisces about looking out the window of his apartment in Galveston and watching the porpoises swimming in the gulf. Bob replied that he sees porpoises every morning, but that’s because he’s getting no oxygen to his brain. Somehow, I don’t think that lack of oxygen is really the problem.
