DAY 428, Friday, 5/10/13

There are lots of parties going on tonight. That’s because it’s graduation time at the university. I don’t blame them for wanting to celebrate. I remember how proud I felt when Bob graduated from obedience school. It was a long and tough slog, but I managed to get him through it.

Honestly, Bob can be so dense sometimes. Remember that bone that my friend Mary Ann brought me a couple of weeks ago? Well, Bob assumed that I had chewed it all up, but actually it had slipped under the couch. I’ve been trying for over a week to tell him where it was, but he just didn’t seem to get it. And he calls himself a linguist! Finally, this morning he looked under the couch and found it. Since then, I’ve been trying not to let it out of my sight.

Jeepers! It’s the 8th of May already, and we had a hail storm last night, and this morning Bob had to scrape ice off the car windshield. I told him that I could take care of the ice for him; all I had to do was lift my leg on it, but he wasn’t too keen on that idea.

At work today, I got called in for special duty. A woman started crying (out of joy actually), and Bob brought me to comfort her. Naturally, it worked wonders.

I got a 15-minute brushing at PetSmart today. As they always do, the groomer asked if I had developed any health problems since my last visit, and Bob replied, “Oh, yeah, he’s gotten a lot more spoiled.” Silly Bob. It’s not spoiling if you deserve it.

I just don’t understand why, but Bob and Tony sure seem to enjoy falling down a lot. I’ve written before about how they keep doing it, and it happened again today. Bob and I were walking down the gravel path next to the office when I spotted a baby crawler (maybe it was a gecko). Naturally, I dove for it, and when I did, Bob slipped on the gravel and slid down the hill. He really needs to pay closer attention to what’s going on.

I’ve written before that at work we have an employee recognition board where any employee can post a star for another employee who has done exemplary work. This past month, I got two stars. Each month, there’s a drawing from the names on the recognition board, and the winners get treat jars for their desks. This month, I won one of the jars. Actually, when the HR manager called the names, she said Bob’s name, but everyone knows that the treat jar is really for me.

Guess what I have discovered about Flagstaff. We’ve got crickets! Bob says they’re grasshoppers, not crickets, but I don’t care. I just know that they jump around on the ground, and I can dig for them and chase them and have lots of fun! Yippee!

Man, the weather here is really unusual. Yesterday we had that strong wind that blew down the power pole. Today, the temperature was 25 degrees when Bob and I went out for our first walk, but by late afternoon it was around 70 degrees. Whew! That’s a big change in one day. Of course, it was no problem for me, but Bob is a lot more delicate than I am.

Wow! This was an exciting day. It was very, very windy when Bob and I went out for a little walk. All of a sudden, the wind blew down a power pole nearby. We weren’t hit, but the transformer sparked and then exploded. It didn’t really faze me, but I think Bob was a little shaken up. We couldn’t even get back into our building because the power was knocked out, which meant that the electronic keys didn’t work. We had to walk around to the front of the building to get in. The power remained off for a couple of hours. Bob was scheduled to give a presentation, but it got postponed until the afternoon. Since he couldn’t show his slides, he just talked about me, and everybody in the meeting was enthralled, naturally.

I made a new friend today. A nice German shepherd moved into the apartment around the corner. He’s very friendly, and we had a grand time getting acquainted. Oh, and the two humans there seem nice too.
