DAY 725: Monday, 3/3/14

Well, Bob finally got off his duff and set out my beds. See, we had to leave them behind in Pennsylvania because Bob said there wasn’t enough room in the car for them. (I’ll withhold comment on that point.) However, my buddy Toland brought them with him when he passed through Flagstaff last week. Remember, we went up there and met him, and that’s when we got my beds back. I kept telling Bob to unpack them, but he said he wanted to wash them first. “Well, do it!” I said, and he finally did. So, I now have one bed in the living room and another one is my bedroom. (Don’t tell Bob; he thinks it’s HIS bedroom.)

Caleb and Bob got upset with me today, but it’s their fault. Remember the time I poked out the screen and jumped out the window? Well, today I went the other way; I poked through the screen and jumped into Caleb’s room from the outside. Like I said, though, it’s their fault. They never should have left me out on the patio on a rainy day. So, there!

Bob and I went back up to Flagstaff today to meet up with our buddy Toland from Pennsylvania. He was driving through in his truck and brought my two dog beds to me. There wasn’t room in the car for them when we left PA.

Bob was getting ready to leave Flagstaff when I told him we couldn’t leave without saying hello to my buddy Dr. Romans, so we went over to the clinic. Naturally, she was thrilled to see me…and even seemed glad to see Bob.

One of the Humans that Bob chats with posted this article from the Internet called “How Dogs Read Our Moods: Emotion Detector Found in Fido's Brain”: s-read-our-moods-emotion-detector-found-in-fidos-brain?utm_c ontent=socialflow&utm_campaign=nprfacebook&utm_source=npr&ut m_medium=facebook.

It’s interesting, but honestly, why do Humans have to spend so much time and money trying to figure out what we Canines have known since the beginning of time?

Bob and I went shopping today. He bought a new printer and a chair at Costco so he could set up his little office space in our room. I think it’s nice that he has a work area, but it’s taking space away from me. I barely have enough space in that room as it is. Oh, well, I guess we all have to make allowances in our relationships, huh?

Caleb put me out on the patio and closed the screen door this afternoon so he could help Bob put his chair together, but he was in for a surprise when he turned around and saw me standing there in the bedroom doorway. “How did you get in here?” he asked. So, I told him about the time I escaped through the window back in Temple, TX (DAY 43: Saturday, 4/21/12). Caleb’s a pretty smart guy, but he’s gonna have to learn that he’s not the only smart one in this house.

Many of Bob’s friends belong to a group called Unitarians. Like many other Humans, they get together on once a week and talk about how the world would be so much better if Humans acted more like Canines. One part of their meetings consists of what they call Joys and Concerns, in which people share something they are concerned about (a medical problem, financial worries, loved ones, etc.) or something they are happy about (a new job, an engagement, a good political development, etc.). One of Bob’s friends, Jane, wrote to us to say that she would be sharing something from my diary at today’s gathering. I don’t know exactly what she planned to share, but I have a hunch it was a joy rather than a concern.

Remember that road trip I wrote about yesterday? Well, we went back to our old stomping grounds, Flagstaff. We had to go collect the things that we had left in a storage locker when we went to Pennsylvania. I enjoyed the crisp mountain air again, though I had to spend most of the time in the car while Bob loaded the trailer. I did enjoy the ride up there and back, though.

I’ve been spending more time outside lately—mostly on the covered patio. There’s a nice cushioned settee under the awning, so I’m quite comfortable. Bob seems perplexed that I spend so much time out there but wait for him to come out before I go around and do my business. What I’m doing, though, is watching out for him. If I don’t wait for him to come out and walk with me, how will he ever get his exercise?

Oh! Oh! I’m excited. Bob says we’re going on a road trip tomorrow. I can’t wait to see where we’re going.

Bob cooked dinner for our roommates tonight, so earlier in the day we went grocery shopping. Naturally, everybody in the store commented on how beautiful I am, but what really made Bob feel good was the number of people who remarked that I was so well behaved. Maybe someday they’ll tell me how well behaved Bob is. Or maybe not.

All day long, I’ve been humming one of Bob’s songs. See if you can figure out why:
