DAY 411, Tuesday, 4/23/13

I just can’t figure Bob out. First, he gets uptight when I get playful at work or speak up during meetings, and today he worried that I was being too quiet and not bugging him to go out all the time. Make up your mind already, Bob.

OK, I’m ready for another elk bone. The one that Mary Ann brought me didn’t last very long.

My friends Mary Ann and Art from Prescott came by to visit me today. They brought me an elk bone, which I have already begun to devour. Well, I couldn’t let them think that I was unappreciative, now could I?

Whew! I’m doing triple duty right now. Not only do I have to take care of Bob around the clock and cheer up the people at work 40 hours a week, but now I’m having to look after Tony as well. He’s evidently come down with a “bug,” and Bob and I had to take him home from work today. If it’s really a bug, they should let me at it. I’m great at digging up bugs.

Today, Maria, one of my buddies at work, wrote a note to Miranda. I told Maria that I wanted to send a message too, so she scraped off some of my fur and taped it to the envelope so that Miranda would know how much I miss her.

Anne told me today that she and her friend Dee go for a 3-mile walk every day at lunchtime and said they would be glad to take me with them any time I want. That sounds like fun. I get tired of being cooped up in the office all the time and would really enjoy going out for some exercise. I’m looking forward to that.

Today we had another one of those meetings at work where the people in our office talk to people in another office over TV. It’s called Telemed. This meeting was with some big shots who work for the state in Phoenix. For most of the meeting, I just lay under the table at Bob’s feet and kept to myself. After about an hour, though, I’d had enough, and I started speaking up. The people in Phoenix were startled because they hadn’t seen me under the table. Bob explained that he had a service dog and that I liked to talk sometimes. They thought that was funny, and when they started to laugh, I came out from under the table. “Oh, I see his white tail,” exclaimed one of the women in Phoenix. Bob quipped, “Thank you for assuming that was the dog’s.”

This morning when I was exercising, Bob said I reminded him of the movie “Dances with Wolves.” Well, it makes sense. After all, they were my ancestors. Tony asked if I knew how to do the merengue. I think he’s just jealous because I’m more nimble than he is.

The office just wasn’t the same today without Miranda and Nancy. [Whimper. Whimper.]

Most of the day, the three of us guys just lay back and took it easy, but Bob and I did go out for a bit this afternoon. Our organization had a table at a gay pride event at the university, so we went to help staff the table. Bob talked to the people who came by about the work we do, and my job was just to sit there real pretty and draw attention. It was a pretty easy job.

Bob and Tony got up and went out this morning, and they didn’t take me with them. I figured that they had gone to the office, and I felt sorry for all the employees who would miss my smiling face. When they came home, though, they said that nobody was at the office because today was Saturday. I have no idea what that means. I wonder what they were hiding.

Tony has been making great progress with his physical therapy. In fact, he no longer needs the wheelchair. He now walks with crutches and sometimes even without them. Pretty soon, he’ll be able to run and play with me again. Last night, he even went upstairs and slept in his own bed. You know what that means, don’t you? Yep, I finally got my couch back.
