DAY 453, Tuesday, 6/4/13

Whew! I’m pooped. Annie walked by the office today and noticed how restless I was. She said that she and another co-worker were going for their daily walk at noon and would be happy to take me with them. Wow, that was some walk! By the time we got back to the office, I just crashed on my mat and stayed there until it was time to come home.

I made Bob very proud today. Of course, he’s ALWAYS proud of me, but…. Here’s what happened.

Bob washed my leash today and laid it across one of the picnic tables outside to dry in the sun. I had to go out, though, before Bob had a chance to go out and get it. So, he had me follow him outside without the leash on. Naturally, I started to take off toward the little green valley up front, but Bob yelled, “Stop!” And you know what I did? Well, I stopped, of course. Then, he called, “Come.” And, of course, I went right to him. Now, that may not sound like much, but one of the neighbors was standing on his front porch, and he looked very impressed. And that’s what made Bob feel so proud. Can’t say as I blame him.

I smell somethin’ fishy. I’m not quite sure what it is, but nobody knows like the nose knows, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out pretty soon.

Bob looks pretty wiped out tonight, so I think I’ll just say “hi” to all my pup pals and sign off.

Bob is always talking about how they didn’t have all these electronic games and toys when he was a kid; they played with sticks and used their imaginations. I guess they didn’t have toy cars either ‘cuz the wheel hadn’t been invented yet. Anyway, I’m a bit like that too. I’m blessed to have a bunch of nice toys, but you know what’s my favorite? It’s my leash. Yeah, I like to chase it, toss it up in the air, catch it between my teeth, and do all sorts of imaginative things with it. Ah, the simple life!

It’s supposed to get a lot warmer over the next few days. While I really like cold weather—especially when it snows—but there is one good thing about warm weather. The warmer it gets, the more that people cook outdoors on their grills, and you know what that means? They’re eating outdoors and dropping their food on their patios. And you know what that means? Aw, c’mon. Do I have to spell it out for ya?

DAY 445, Monday, 5/27/13

Today is a day that the humans in this part of the world have set aside to remember and honor all of the men and women who have died for their country in war. I hope that they will take a moment to reflect also on all of the canines, equines, and other animals who have sacrificed, not only in war, but under other circumstances as well. Better yet, wouldn’t it be nice if they would just sit down and try to figure out how to stop killing one another and focus instead on making the world a safer place for all of Gaia’s creatures? But then, what do I know? I’m just a dog.

I’ve been spending a lot of time today contemplating the meaning of life.

Had ya goin’ there for a minute, didn’t I?

Now that the weather’s warmer, I get to go out and sit on the patio a lot more often. We have a doggie fence that’s supposed to keep me from running off. Yeah, funny, right? Bob says that when the gate’s not locked, he loves to watch me flick it open with my snout. In fact, he says he’s often amazed at the ease with which I do things. Frankly, sometimes I’m amazed that Bob can do anything at all…if you know what I mean.
