DAY 43, Thursday, 7/4/13

Oh, no! Lord, help me. Today was a holiday, so we didn’t have to go to work. Bob spent the day rearranging furniture. That wasn’t so bad, but he pulled out the keyboard he’s had in storage since we moved to Arizona. Now my poor, sensitive ears will have to put up with that racket while he tries to compose another song. Oh, don’t get me wrong: once he’s done, it’s not bad; but while he’s working on a song, I have to listen to the same doggone notes over and over and over and over and….

It rained really hard today while we were at work, and when we got home, the ground was covered in white stuff. Of course, I assumed it was snow, but Bob said no, it was hail. I couldn’t believe it. It was almost a foot deep in some places. Even if it wasn’t snow, it was fun to play in.

Yeah, it’s been a busy week.

I feel so sad today for all the people and animals who lost their homes in the Arizona fires. You will remember my really good friend Miranda, who used to work where I work now. Well, her parents lost their home in the fires.

A team of my co-workers went down to Prescott today to help with any mental health crises. I’m really glad that I work with people like that.

Today, Sandy (our apartment manager) brought over a couple of horses so she could give them a bath in the parking lot. They were beautiful, but they looked so sad. Their eyes just cried, “We sure wish we had a big white fluffy, friendly dog to come over and play with us.” Bob couldn’t see it, but he never could read eyes as well as I can. I tried to go over and make them feel better, but Bob kept pulling me away. Talk about your animal cruelty!

Bob came up with a really bright idea this week. Yeah, I know, I’m as shocked as you are, but it really happened. You see, we were in a meeting at work when I started to talk. Well, instead of taking me out of the room, Bob decided to remove my vest and release my lead. All of a sudden, when I was free to roam at will, I didn’t feel the need to. At one point, Bob even got up and walked out of the room and left me behind, and when he came back in, all of our friends and co-workers told him what a good boy I had been…how I had just sat right there and waited for him to return. Then, that afternoon, in another meeting, he did the same thing, and again I behaved like the perfect little gentleman I am. Everybody was so impressed.

I was so relieved to hear from my friend Barbara in Prescott Valley tonight. There are terrible fires in her area, and I’m so glad to know that she, Deborah, and all the little critters are safe.

I went to the beauty shop today. I can’t wait to go back to the office tomorrow and show everybody how pretty I am. Well, of course, everybody there already knows that, but you know what I mean.

Bob said to me today that it looks like I’m gonna have to go to work to help pay the rent now that Tony’s leaving. I told him that I’ve already got a full-time job looking after him, and then I suggested that he take a second job to keep me in the manner to which I expect to become accustomed.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I wrote that I smelled something fishy in the air? Well, I was right—of course! Tony has been bringing boxes home and packing things away in them. In the past, this activity has always meant that we were moving. I told Bob that I like it here in Flagstaff and that I don’t want to move someplace that has no snow. “Don’t worry, Biscuit,” he told me. “You and I aren’t moving.” “You and I?” I asked. “What about Tony?” Bob never answered me, though. He just turned and walked away.

Bob is thankful that I’m not a car chaser. There’s been a lot more traffic out front now that the weather has gotten warmer. People are heading for the lake with their boats and swim suits. Of course, they all slow down to gaze at me when I’m out front. Who needs to chase cars, though, when I’ve got all these little critters buzzing around?

Know what I like best about springtime? It’s when all the little bitty critters come out to play. Some of them hop around on the grass; some flit around in the air. Doesn’t matter. Either way, I just like to chase after them. Yippee.
