DAY 468, Wednesday, 6/19/13

I was so relieved to hear from my friend Barbara in Prescott Valley tonight. There are terrible fires in her area, and I’m so glad to know that she, Deborah, and all the little critters are safe.

I went to the beauty shop today. I can’t wait to go back to the office tomorrow and show everybody how pretty I am. Well, of course, everybody there already knows that, but you know what I mean.

Bob said to me today that it looks like I’m gonna have to go to work to help pay the rent now that Tony’s leaving. I told him that I’ve already got a full-time job looking after him, and then I suggested that he take a second job to keep me in the manner to which I expect to become accustomed.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I wrote that I smelled something fishy in the air? Well, I was right—of course! Tony has been bringing boxes home and packing things away in them. In the past, this activity has always meant that we were moving. I told Bob that I like it here in Flagstaff and that I don’t want to move someplace that has no snow. “Don’t worry, Biscuit,” he told me. “You and I aren’t moving.” “You and I?” I asked. “What about Tony?” Bob never answered me, though. He just turned and walked away.

Bob is thankful that I’m not a car chaser. There’s been a lot more traffic out front now that the weather has gotten warmer. People are heading for the lake with their boats and swim suits. Of course, they all slow down to gaze at me when I’m out front. Who needs to chase cars, though, when I’ve got all these little critters buzzing around?

Know what I like best about springtime? It’s when all the little bitty critters come out to play. Some of them hop around on the grass; some flit around in the air. Doesn’t matter. Either way, I just like to chase after them. Yippee.

Whew! I’m pooped. Annie walked by the office today and noticed how restless I was. She said that she and another co-worker were going for their daily walk at noon and would be happy to take me with them. Wow, that was some walk! By the time we got back to the office, I just crashed on my mat and stayed there until it was time to come home.

I made Bob very proud today. Of course, he’s ALWAYS proud of me, but…. Here’s what happened.

Bob washed my leash today and laid it across one of the picnic tables outside to dry in the sun. I had to go out, though, before Bob had a chance to go out and get it. So, he had me follow him outside without the leash on. Naturally, I started to take off toward the little green valley up front, but Bob yelled, “Stop!” And you know what I did? Well, I stopped, of course. Then, he called, “Come.” And, of course, I went right to him. Now, that may not sound like much, but one of the neighbors was standing on his front porch, and he looked very impressed. And that’s what made Bob feel so proud. Can’t say as I blame him.

I smell somethin’ fishy. I’m not quite sure what it is, but nobody knows like the nose knows, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out pretty soon.

Bob looks pretty wiped out tonight, so I think I’ll just say “hi” to all my pup pals and sign off.

Bob is always talking about how they didn’t have all these electronic games and toys when he was a kid; they played with sticks and used their imaginations. I guess they didn’t have toy cars either ‘cuz the wheel hadn’t been invented yet. Anyway, I’m a bit like that too. I’m blessed to have a bunch of nice toys, but you know what’s my favorite? It’s my leash. Yeah, I like to chase it, toss it up in the air, catch it between my teeth, and do all sorts of imaginative things with it. Ah, the simple life!
