DAY 65, Sunday, 5/13/12

Well, as expected, Sue reported to Tony and Bob this morning that I had been a perfect little angel at her place last night. She also told them that I “cried for my daddies” a bit. I wish she hadn’t told them that. It kinda makes me look like a wimp. Oh, well.

Remember my buddy Fred who lived around the corner? He was rooming with Roger. Well, Fred has gone to live with Roger’s daughter, and now Roger has a new roommate. Her name is Honeybee, and she’s a cute little long-haired Chihuahua mix. Roger brought her over this afternoon, and I had a grand time getting acquainted with her. Roger said that I “don’t have a mean bone in my body.” Bob responded, “Yeah, I’ve always said that if burglars were to break into the apartment, Biscuit would just roll over and ask them to rub his belly.”

Last night and all this morning, I’ve been burrowing my nose between the seat cushions on the couch. Later, Bob saw me trying to stick my nose under the couch. He finally put two and two together and figured out that I was trying to retrieve the elk horn I had inadvertently knocked under there. I guess I can add remedial math to the list of things I’ll have to work on with Bob.

Well, I chewed up another toy today—shredded it into a million pieces. It’s the one that Tony and Bob called a doggie bed, but it was just a great big chew toy to me. I didn’t really need a bed anyway. The couch is perfectly comfortable.

I was very productive today. I helped Bob finish another song. (I did mention that he writes songs, didn’t I?) How did I help? you ask. Well, I sat in the corner and left him alone while he worked. Can’t get much more helpful than that, now can you?

The training class last night was a bit of a challenge. We were working on the command “on your bed,” but I don’t really have a bed anymore, so Bob changed it to “on your spot,” and it sorta worked, but I think we’re both gonna need a lot more practice. Today, Bob went to the store and bought a new chew toy…uh…er…bed, so we’ll see.

We also tried catching a treat that was thrown to us. Heck, I don’t need any practice for that. I nailed that one cold.

Bob has been putting the “finishing touches” on his latest song. I guess he couldn’t sleep last night thinking about it. (It didn’t keep me awake, of course.) Bob writes traditional, easy-listening stuff, what Tony calls “white people’s music.” Tony and I prefer Afro-Caribbean music—something we can shake our tails to.

Bob realized something about me this week. I used to run to the door every time I saw or heard him going out, but now I’m more discriminating. If he goes out with a basket, I know he’s just going to the laundry room and will be right back, so I just stay where I am. On the other hand, if he puts on his cap, then I know he’s going away in the car, and I loooooooooove riding in the car, so I often get to the door before he does.

Yippee! Tony didn’t have to work today, so I got to spend the whole day with him. Last night, he and Bob went out to dinner and left me home alone. I wasn’t too crazy about that, but this morning, they took me to Pepper Creek Trail, and that sorta made up for last night. Sorta.

Bob made a music video with his new song and put it on YouTube. You can see it at I think it’s pretty good—even though I’m not in it.

I’ve been teaching Bob a new game. He says, “On your bed,” and I go lie down on my (new) bed. Then, he says, “Stay” and goes into another room. Then, he calls me from the other room, and I run. Just as I get to the door, he says, “Sit,” and I sit right in front of him. Then—and this is the good part—he gives me a treat. We’ve been practicing, and I must say that he’s getting pretty good at this game. Next, I want to teach him to give me the treat first, then go into the other room and stay there while I enjoy my snack in solitude.

Peee-yewwww! It sure does smell in here. I think Bob needs a bath. Or maybe it’s Tony. Or maybe it’s…. Nah. Gotta be one of them.

Yeah, I know…there was no diary entry yesterday. Of course, I never lack for something to say, but I have to rely on Bob to type up my words, and sometimes he’s just…well…you know.

Anyway, we had another good training session last night. I was really good at going to my assigned spot on command and even staying there until Bob called me. Of course, there were treats involved, so that pretty much sealed the deal.

Bob borrowed a special collar from the trainer, Wendy. I don’t really like it ‘cuz it goes over my snout and just annoys the bejeebies out of me. It’s supposed to keep me from bolting when Bob and I are out walking. Today, I tried to do a better job of heeling so Bob won’t put that contraption on me.
