Leave a bone for Max (Forever in my heart)

Nicknames:
Maxi, Maxi Priest, Sweet Guy, Gorgeous Boy, Crazy Beast, Handsome Fella

Quick Bio:
-purebred-dog rescue

Likes:
Tummy rubs, giving and receiving hugs and kisses, cuddling with Mama, car rides, wrestling with little Sandy, going for a RUN, racing from one end of the house to the other a.k.a. the zoomies, going to the vet (we adore her!), kids, dog people

Pet-Peeves:
Pedicures unless there are lots of tummy rubs included, baths, anyone NOT paying attention to me, the mailman waking me up from a nap, little dogs yapping at me, people asking Mom if I bite (no, but I will lick if you get close enough)!

Favorite Toy:
Stuffed cow, big stuffed doggie, pretty much anything UNstuffed-able

Favorite Food:
Chicken, salmon, piggy twists, marrow bones-YUM!

Favorite Walk:
Lake Chabot, Redwood Park and the Marina

Best Tricks:
Does chewing a hole in the fence to go play with the neighbor dog count? Ok, how about waiting to be given permission to eat? Bowing before getting dinner. I think the best 'trick' (really a bad habit) was the way he hugged people to greet them.

Arrival Story:
Max's first year was spent chained to a tree in a lonely backyard. My ex-boyfriend and I were both looking for dogs and he initially rescued him. But the first time I saw him, I felt an immediate bond. 'Joint custody' started shortly thereafter. About a month later, my ex decided Max needed a little more nurturing guardian and gave him to me. He was and is, hands down, the most treasured gift anyone has ever given me. I am forever grateful for him. Once mine, I vowed Max would forget all about that first year and know he was loved each and every day. I'm sure he knew how much I loved him. And I'm equally sure he knows how much I miss him now.

Bio:
Max is truly a miracle! He was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease at the age of 2 1/2 and given little hope of survival. We refused to accept that and after 8 months of an emotional roller coaster, 3 bouts of pneumonia and surgery to remove his damaged lung lobes, his disease was in remission. Yeah! The next two years he was strong, full of life, a very happy guy and completely spoiled! He was my inspiration and taught me about faith, hope and so much more during some very tough times. Max was diagnosed with cancer on January 27, 2005. Once again, I told him we would fight this together and he was responding well to a holistic protocol, as the cancer was inoperable. After a beautiful week with an early taste of Spring and lots of walks in the sunshine, his tumor started affecting his brain causing seizures. My final act of love, releasing him from his body on February 11,2005. He was an incredible soul and I still feel his presence with me. Mama loves you Maxi! Thank you for all the memories, lessons and love. You are my forever doggie!
