Arrival Story:
Hi, my name is really Zuckert which mean "Sweetie" in German. Since I am a German Long Dog... she named gave me a German name. Mommy calls me Zuckie for a nickname though. I like that! I am so glad to be with her and Meika - my adopted sister. Listen to this... I have been through quite a bit in my short years! I wannna to tell yall how I have come to live with Mommy and Meika. Pretty special story! I used to live in Big Spring, Texas... that is - I think - in West Texas! No place like Texas! I am a Texas Long Dog for sure! Anyway, My running buddy and I got out of the fence and we started chasing cars and trucks, because that was about all there was to do in Big Spring... woof... well, before you know it... wham... I was put into a cage like place because we had gotten too far from home. I wasn't sure where we were but at least we did have each other. There were other dogs around too. They were all barking and carrying on most all day. One day the fella next door to us... not sure what kind of dog he was, he was kinda scruffy and loud and not very friendly. He must have not had anyone really ever love him. Anyway, some of the people that worked at this place with all the cages came to get him out of his cage. But ya' know... he never came back... not sure what happened to him...? Then a really nice lady came to our cage. She talked very sweet to us and the next thing I knew we were riding in her car and having a blast. She talked to us and sang to us. Told us she was so happy she found us. Not sure who she was but she was a very nice lady. After a while we came to a big city. I think I heard someone call it Dallas. When we got out of the car, she took us into a building with a lot of other dogs and cats. Everyone seemed sooo happy to be there. They were all running around playing and having such a good time. There were soft places for us to sleep at night and good food for us to eat. We were pretty happy there. Then one day someone came to see my red running buddy. He was so happy ... he said maybe they wanna just play in that big room with me... so they took him out of his sleeping place and he never came back. Hummm... not sure what ever happened to him either. I was pretty sad because we slept together in our own beds but together. I really missed him. He and I were very good friends. We used to play and run around in Big Spring all the time. Now my best friend was no where to be found. I still had many other friends to play with though. It just didn't seem the same tho. I eventually got over being so sad and learned to play with everyone else at play time. THEN... one day, about 2 months after I came to this good place one of the nice people that worked at the place where I was came and got me from my sleeping place. It was quiet time and all of us were resting after playing in the morning. She took me into the big room, where we all get together and play, but this time it was just me. When I came into the room, there was another lady in the room. She had a little black and tan long dog that looked a lot like me... She was very nice. She sat on the floor and called to me. I went over to her and she picked me up and gave me a kiss and a wonderful hug. I have never been hugged like that before. She seemed very special. She had a wonderful smile and her voice was sweet and tender. I really liked her. She seemed different than anyone that I saw every day. She sat there on the floor and I played around the room with the little girl dog that she brought with her. I liked her a lot. I liked the little girl dog a lot too. WOW... then the next thing I know I am in her car with her and the little girl dog ... which I heard her call Meika... she was another long dog like me... So... here I am riding in another car with this Meika dog and this other nice lady. We drove for a little while then the car stopped and the nice lady that had the nice eyes and sweet voice said... "Well, here we are... Home Again, Home Again." which I have learned that is a wonderful saying. We went inside ... and this was a different kind of place. This was more like the place I used to live... it was a house. This lady... who I have come to know as Mommy... Leah is her real name, but Meika and I call her Mommy. Anyway, Mommy took us inside the house and she introduced me to her mommy and daddy... now known as Mom and Papa John. They seem to be kinda old but very sweet. They were VERY surprised to see me. I think Mommy didn't tell them I was coming to live there. But in a few hours everyone was so happy and loving on me and giving me kisses and hugs. I felt so loved ... really this was the first time I can ever remember that I felt loved, safe and happy. SO HAPPY! Then Mommy took me into the back yard.... O MY GOODNESS!!! It is a wonderful back yard. I can run and play with Meika and have so much fun! Mommy feeds the birds and Meika barks and chases them sometimes. Mommy doesn't like her to do that but she does it anyway... woof! Also there are some squirrels that Meika barked at and chased away. We had such a good time in my new back yard. By the time dark time came, I was so tired. Everything was so new and exciting. I couldn't wait to wake up the next morning. Then Mommy said it was time to go to bed. I couldn't believe it when she put me up on her bed! I NEVER got to sleep on a big bed like that! I always have slept on the floor ... or actually I slept outside sometimes. I NEVER got on a people bed before without being fussed at. I actually got to sleep with her and Meika on the big bed. It was so nice and soft. I slept so good that night, and every night since. So now it has been about 3 months since I came to live with Mommy and Meika … and Mom and Papa John. It has been the best 3 months I have ever had. OH!! Also… I have learned to bark! Meika barked but I never barked… I used to get in big time trouble when I would bark before. But I have found out that it’s ok to bark at the birds or squirrels or even at the people walking down our street! I bark at Mommy sometimes too when I want to get her to play with me. She laughs at me and plays go fetch. AND…. Also Meika has sooo many toys to play with. I didn’t really know what to do with all those stuffed toys… She would pick them up and squeak them and run around and play with them. Meika taught me that it’s ok to go pick out the one I want to play with and have fun. I can play with any toy in the house. Meika shares everything! I love Meika and my new Mommy. We have such a good time together. We go to the dog park and make new friends too. We take walks around our neighborhood and Meika and I actually help Mommy when she digs in the dirt and plants pretty things. I am so thankful for my new home. Thanks for reading my story and how I came to live at my new home! I sure am a happy Long Dog now!

I also have a tattoo on my belly. It is a very strange one... simple but strange.
