We had a bit of a downpour whilst I was inside eating supper. When it stopped, Momsie let us all outside. Since I am soo super smart I realized the hard, dry dirt under the fence was probably now soft and easy to dig so dig I did.
About 7 or 8 minutes later Mom heard someone yell, and also heard someone knocking on the door. She went out to find two of the vets from the vet clinic next door. Seems they were outside on a break and they brought me home when I went up there visiting!
The problem was not me, however. It was Riley. Once again, he followed me out MY hole and he also went along up to the vet clinic with me. BUT, when they opened the door to let me in, Riley took off cuz he is a scaredy cat! He ran home to Mommy.
Anyway, they saw him run down in the back yard, but they couldn't find him. Mom knew EXACTLY where he was...the little brown noser once again went right back inside the hole I dug and he was pretending he never got out and went visiting, BOL! He was barking at the vets like he was supposed to be protecting HIS pen.
Mom says this is the final breakout... tomorrow morning I am headed over to the boarding kennel to spend the rest of the Summer, like I have EVERY other Summer since I came here. Mom figured there was hope for me this year since I now get along with all the other dogs here and we all go outside together.
I can't help myself...it is an obsession and obessions MUST be dealt with. Besides, I am the BEST at pretending I am not even checking out that fence every time Mom looks out the door to see what I am doing!
Mom keeps reminding me that the fence over at the kennel has TWO FEET buried under ground!!

Well, Mother came right home from work the other day and fixed the fence. She not only put up a new piece over the old part that I pulled off the wall, but she moved a large rock right in front of it.
I took that as a challenge... wouldn't you???
So, this morning the sun was shining brightly so Mom got up early and put us outside. She was sitting in the living room, watching the news and drinking her coffee when she glanced out the window and...yup, she saw RILEY run by!!!
Of course, Mom KNEW Riley would NEVER bust out of the fence...he might climb it, but that is a high fence. Soo, she brought all the other dogs into the house and raced out the door to find ME and Riley.
Mom was in a hurry so she didn't grab her shoes. She was amazed at how slippery and cold that morning frost was!!! Within a few minutes she was limping and complaining so, not seeing either one of us, she headed back to the house for her shoes and a jacket.
Sadly, it was just at that moment that I was running by the front steps on my way up to the vets. She saw me, so I thought it was in my best interest to race over and run into the house with her! BUSTED!
She put me in my crate, got her shoes and jacket and headed back to find Riley. She called and called and called and walked all around the house and even over to the kennel and didn't find him.
Suddenly, she remembered all those "holes" in the lab pen fence, so she raced down there and sure enough, Riley was down there playing with some toys.
As soon as Mom came home from work she added another piece to the fence, moved a HUGE rock on the back side of the hole and moved the dog house right in front of the inside. But... she says that won't work for me because I now know that I can dig UNDER that end fence, too.
Looks like I am back to leash walking again. That was the ONLY pen I hadn't figured out yet, darn it all!!! It was a challenge, but I proved that in spite of being old, I was up to the challenge, BOL!

I have been sooo good for weeks and weeks and weeks, heck, MONTHS even. I haven't even looked at the fences to see if there were any weak spots.
Well, this morning Mom was over at work and when one of the daycare dogs came in the door, I raced in with her. Her owner called me a PUG, imagine that??? And, he LOVES Jethro, who is MY son, yet he knows he is a Frenchie. What's up with that???
Anyway, Mom was MOST unhappy to see me arrive at work. It seems she has been noticing how very good I have been so she left ME outside this morning with the others since it was sunny but cool enough for a Frenchie like me.
I swear, I didn't TRY to escape... I just notice that where the side fence meets the shed wall it was looking a little loose. I pushed and pulled and tugged on it and, suddenly, it pulled right off the bottom of the shed leaving a nice, big hole. It was plenty big enough for me to walk thru so I did! Sadly, I didn't notice that the ground was a good six feet down...that first step sure was a killer!!!! It's okay, I didn't get injured.
I was headed up to the vets on the hill when those people drove in with Yanna for daycare. I decided I would stop in there first and see if Julie had any leftover bagel for me, I have missed them since I've been home.
Trust me, if she HAD any leftover bagel Mom would NOT have let me have any!!! She was MAD at me!!
Would you believe NONE of those other silly poodles or crested even LOOKED at the hole I left, much less walked thru it and they are all smaller than me, BOL!
