people... Sesi loved everyone and everyone raved about how beautiful, gentle, friendly and well behaved she was.
people who don't understand her when she tells them she wants to go out... she would get behind them and butt bop them with her nose to tell them.
a pink squeak toy in the shape of a bone that she played with every morning with our youngest son. She would grab the toy, jump on her boy and squeak it on him victoriously.
Mom's home cooking. Sesi, was not really into food and even with dog training, she would not take a bribe. When she was walking, she would not accept treats, she would spit them on the ground.
wild walks on semi-wilderness paths, parks, Martin Canyon Creek
Talking, Sesi said, "I love you".
Sesi was born in Kentucky and shipped in her crate to my son as a tiny puppy. She came to us at eleven months. She belonged to my son and he brought her to me when his fences were broken. By the time he could afford to fix his fences, we had fallen in love with Sesi. It was mutual. Sesi was phenomenally happy with us. Sesi learned to like cats here. She took two obedience courses and learned how to talk. She said, "I love you". She also said "NO" but only when I told her to down. Then she'd say no and then lie down. Sesi's only fault was that she was a runner. We tried hard to keep her safe; but she was an escape artist. On March first she slipped past us at the door and was hit by a car. We rushed her to the Vet. An operation for a broken hip, another emergency visit for a transfusion rejection and ultimately internal injuries. After twelve days Sesi said goodbye to us and died in my arms.
One day I had a school meeting a local park. Because of the meeting, Sesi stayed home. While I was there I met another husky and his family. I petted the husky. When I arrived home, Sesi came to greet me. She smelled my hand and went to her crate where she pouted for three hours. That was a Friday and Sesi gave me the cold shoulder until Monday. Then, I was permitted to prove my devotion to her again. Despite that Sesi was jealous of my affection to other animals and to the household cats, she was a model citizen... never destructive in any way.
Once we left town for a graduation three hours away. I had left earlier than my son and told him to put Sesi in her crate when he left. When he arrived at the graduation he whispered to me that he had forgotten to crate the dog. In my mind I had visions of complete disaster and five dead cats. I rushed out to call my older son who had not gone with us because of work. He assured not to worry, the cats were all fine and Sesi had crated herself when her bedtime came. After that, although Sesi always loved her crate, I never felt like I had to crate her. But, my children complained to me that when I left they wanted to play with Sesi; but she would crate herself when I left and wait for my return. On long trips, Sesi would refuse to eat in my absence and so I began to take her along. She rode wonderfully in the car even the three hour trip to my parents and the four hours back to my oldest son, her original owner. Some of my fondest memories with Sesi was taking the walk around the lake in Atascadero.
When we had to replace our car, we got a small SUV with a back for Sesi. She had a dog bed there and an accordian tie down. When we traveled without her crate, Sesi would ask to go to the car when she wanted her crate time. I would put her on the tie down and she'd lie on her bed with the hatch open and watch the world around her. Before long, Sesi and I traveled everywhere together.
When Sesi learned how to say "I love you" she was so excited to be able to talk to me. Shortly, we went to visit my parents and Sesi wanted to use her words with their pug. The pug was older and didn't want to play so Sesi chased him all over the house telling him, "I love you". When that didn't work, Sesi came home and didn't want to use her words anymore. But, I kept working with her and after a time, Sesi decided that her words were between her and her family. Then she began to use them quite a lot. Once she wanted to go out and I was busy at the computer. She went from side to side around my desk and finally came to one side, put her paws up and said, "I love you" so loud and clear that everyone started to laugh.
