rolls belly-up on command, says "I love you"
After we lost our beautiful Sesi, the house was quite and lonely. The children wanted another dog but I felt I needed time to heal. Even so, the emptiness was too much for all of us and soon we were searching for another husky. I thought that we'd get a rescued husky; but it was impossible to find one who liked cats. So, we looked for a puppy we could train. Having nearly nine thousand dollars in vet bills, I could not afford a pedigreed dog but we managed to find a puppy not too far away. It was a private party and the parents were on site. The dogs were friendly but they ruled the house. The puppy was calm and friendly so we took her and brought her home.
She'd never been in a car before, never on a leash or wore a collar, never away from her parents and never had any crate training. She gobbled like puppy mill dog and she cried piteously in her crate. But, the next night she quieted down better and in a week she was crate trained. A bob-a-lot took care of the gobbling and Kaija loved it. After only weeks, Kaija knows sit, free, and off. She is sweet and loves everyone. When she hears "Belly-girl" she lies belly up to be petted. She's learning to like the car and cats. She loves toys and romping.

Yesterday I took Kaija with me to my Master Gardener work day. I attached her with a long lead to a post on a large patio below the four foot retaining wall that supports our garden. Then I jumped up the retaining wall to work and Kaija immediately followed.
I forgot Kaija as a worked and noted a little cottontail frequently running through the garden. I looked over at Kaija and she was meandering through the garden. Then, I saw that Kaija was eating something. Disgusting, I thought, probably cat poop again... I pulled her back to the patio; but she immediately hopped the wall and stuck her face down a hole. Suddenly, I heard squeals from inside the hole.
Oh! Naughty Kaija!! Here Mommy thought there was nothing more disgusting than puppies eating cat poop... But, no, Kaija was eating baby bunnies from the bunny hole!

Outside in the dogyard, I looked at Kaija's eyes and realized that there was a wide blue band around her pupils before the bright amber outer edge. Excited, I rushed into the house and told my son to look at Kaija's eyes. He looked; but the light in the house was dimmer than the side yard and Kaija's pupils were much bigger. The only color that could be seen was the bright amber outer circle. This is the second time I saw this and this time it was more prominent than the last time. But, the kids are skeptical... last time I succumbed to the idea that it was all my imagination; but this time, the inner blue band was wider than last time... I have heard of huskies having bi-eyes; but the examples I've seen were one blue and one brown. I wonder if anyone else has seen this with their husky?
