Likes:
Nellie loves to carry her toys with her, loves to run and hop and loves being with her people!

Pet-Peeves:
Nellie does not like the vacuum cleaner or the hair dryer.

Favorite Toy:
An orange stuffed dog, a stuffed duck or just carrying around a lamb's ear or bone.

Favorite Food:
Chicken, yum! Liver, yum! Cottage cheese, extra yummy!

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere there are woods where I can unintentially flush out a bird and startle myself!

Best Tricks:
I like to perch on the sofa, I love to retrieve, and I like to jump!

Arrival Story:
Nellie had some big paws to fill when she came into our lives. We had just lost our wonderful Beanie and the house was so silent and empty without the patter of paws! We took a drive, found a breeder and there was Miss Nellie, ready to be adopted -- that day! Of her brother and two sisters, she chose us... heading right for my husband and sitting on his foot! We knew right then we were family.

Bio:
Nellie came from Fireside Retrievers, and most certainly exhibits the traits of her relatives -- she's a bird dog, alright!

It's been a while!

Dear Diary,

I have been so busy swimming and playing this summer I forgot to write to you! Things have been swell. Let's see, I went to see my Grandma in June and she bought me a whole bunch of new toys, including a stuffed pheasant that I just can't live without! I carry it around with me just about wherever I go -- except when I go swimming.

In July, I got to visit my friends when I stayed for a few days at Miss Susan's. Mom and Dad call her the dog sitter, but I call her my home away from home! She has a brand new kennel with all sorts of fun stuff and best yet, friends I can play with. Miss Susan says I'm very well behaved!

I also did pretty well with the fireworks this year. Didn't try to hide, just stayed very close to Mom while they were shooting them off a few miles away. I do not like the loud noise!

At home, we go swimming just about every day. I love the pool! I jump in after the ball and I love to make a big splash! But we also go to the lake and I swim there too. The only difference is I have to wear my vest at the lake, but I don't have to wear it at home.

Mom and Dad keep talking about getting me a brother or a sister, but I haven't seen it yet. I may have to convince them that it's a good idea so I have a permanent doggie to play with!

Love,
Nellie

Things have been pretty easy-going for me these last few months! I'm happy and healthy and just enjoying hanging out with Mom and Dad. I had a wonderful Christmas and received a lot of toys. I've already chewed the legs off two of the stuffed ducks and I'm working on the raccoon that Grandma gave me!

I guess we lead pretty great lives, but without much adventure. The most exciting thing I get to do -- besides going ANYWHERE in the car -- is running down the hill next to my house to see my favorite neighbor, Mr. Ken.

Mr. Ken loves to call me over and pet me! He calls me a "wascal" and tells me how much fun I am! Last time I ran over there and surprised him -- he wasn't expecting me and I just gallopped into the garage while he was working on his 4-wheeler.

Oh and don't worry -- we live in a rural area so I'm allowed to run down to see Mr. Ken, but I always have an electric collar on when I'm not on the leash!

I'm hoping Spring comes soon. It's been a boring Winter!

The earlier the Spring, the sooner the SWIMMING!
Love, Nellie

Fall already?

OMG, it's been such a l o n g time since I've written to y'all! (I was born near Richmond, VA, so I can use y'all since I'm a southern dawg.)

Let's see what's new! Well, I've been groomed - again - and I really do like Carissa, who comes in a large van to groom me and me alone! I hate the cages and the dryers, and she has NONE of that, so I'm so happy to be her only client and get my "day of beauty" that I deserve, lol!

I also had another visit to my Grandma, who bought me a frisbee. First time I played with it, I LOVED it! I am getting really good at catching it. But... Mom says she has to keep buying new ones because I chew them up so much they don't fly so well. Oh well, I like catching and I like chewing! Bring on the frisbees!

Other than that, I'm really bummed that Mom and Dad had to close the pool and that it's gotten so cold I can't even swim in the lake. (I think Mom's secretly happy that I'm not swimming anymore, since I got an ear infection from so much swimming, but hey -- that's her deal, not mine!)

I will be going to my Fave place for an overnight next weekend! I love Susan, who is my person when Mom and Dad take a weekend away. I meet such great friends at Flat Creek Pet Care. I have a couple best friends: Dot and Mollie. When they are there with me, we play and play. Such fun! I forget that I'm not at home! And Susan is so nice, I don't mind that I'm having a "vacation" as Mom calls it.

Well, it's late and I'm ready for bed. Gonna check the perimeter for deer (I don't chase them, just check) and then go to bed. So glad you're all checking in on me!

Hugs and kisses,
Nellie
