Arrival Story:
It was really tough to lose my bullmastiff Ty at only 5 1/2 years of age. Totally unexpected but Lymphoma will have its way. Such a large hole was left with his departure, I can't even describe how deep. It wasn't long before I knew I had to find another dog like Ty with that special loving quality that so many bullmastiffs have.
After rescueing Teddi, who's been a wonderful dog, and knowing how many dogs are out there needing homes, I committed to finding another adoptable bullmastiff to fill Ty's place as her best pal (and mine!). There are not large numbers of bullmastiffs in this area. So I asked Ty, from his special vantage point at the Rainbow Bridge, to please please help me find the right dog. When I came across Rufus' picture in Petfinder, It was very clear that he was the one. All other plans went out the window. The decision was made instantly. His coloring, his size, his stance was so similar...he looked like Ty's son. But even more so, his personality shone out from the picture - straight into my heart - and grabbed me. As soon as I saw him, I was ready to go get him no matter what his age, background, training, or health was. He was the one.
The shelter said he was a "lovebug". So we made plans for a long drive to Utah (from Colorado) to take this boy back home. And that's the beginning of Rufus's story with us.
Bio:
He had a great start to life, living with a family with kids and another dog. Unfortunately, their circumstances changed and they had to give him up. I'm sure it must have been hard for them to do that. But just in case they somehow happen to come across this Dogster page, I'd like to thank them for doing such a great job with Rufus. He is totally house-trained, and not just housebroken, but has manners, and can be trusted with almost anything (unless it's food!) Just a perfect angel. He rides in the car beautifully, walks right by my side, is calm at the vet's office. Just like Ty, he loves to hug and be hugged, lick, snuggle, lean, and climb in laps whenever he he has a chance. He and Teddi are getting to know each other and are quickly becoming friends. He's just starting to settle in and realize - yes - this IS his forever home and he just doesn't have to worry or be sad anymore.
He fits like a glove into this home, and I am so thankful to have found him. And I know he is thankful to have another chance at the good life.
