Yes...my beloved mutt Muggsy had to be put to sleep in 1994, it was awful...at first I did the usual "Oh no, I can never have another dog"...but then the dog-less house became like a tomb. I went to the shelter and found a dog -- and though they had forgotten to mark it, it turned out it had been promised to someone before me. I was a wreck and ran out of there. I had always adored Corgis, and I called Rescue. Turned out the lady knew of a couple who had purchased a Corgi puppy for show purposes, but she was too small. She was 6 months old. I went to meet her and she jumped all over me -- the couple said, "ha! she's usually shy with everyone!" It was love at first sight. Since then, she has alerted me when I set my house on fire, laid on my tummy to keep me safe after I had surgery, sat in the window to wait for me I approached the house, was as good a little girl as you could ask for, survived the cancer that should have killed her when she was 8, gave me the gift of living until she was 17 and a half, and just generally was the best buddy I could have dreamed of. After Muggsy I just didn't think I could love another dog...Cara wasn't Muggsy...yet I loved her with all my heart just as I did him. Lord but it is hard to be without my Peanut....
