Zack's Introduction: 2.21.12

Hi, my name is Zack. Mom adopted me because she says I have "personality plus". My former foster home dad says that out of 35 dogs that he fostered, that I am the smartest dog he's ever met. Mom and Dad are very happy to have me. My brother Magic and sister Kira love me too.

I sleep every night with Kira. Mom says that when I grow a bit larger that I will no longer be able to sleep on the same dog bed with her. But, I don't care, 'cause I will just sleep on the carpet next to Kira. I like to be touching someone when I sleep. It makes me feel more secure. I bring sticks in from the yard to share with Mom. I'm not too sure about toys yet, but I do like my sticks. She just thanks me and takes them back outside to play with me.

Mom is taking me to a group obedience class. So far I am doing very well, except that I would rather play with other dogs than come when she calls me. I love my 4 legged buddies!

My New Family – 2.23.12

Hi, Zack here. I’m liking it here at my new home. Everyone loves me and I gets lots of treats for sitting, lying down…you know the drill. The only thing Mom finds annoying is that I like to dig and I yodel at the same time. Mom says that I’ve been transforming the yard into a lunar landscape. She has to buy more fencing to keep me out of her garden. Too bad, ‘cause I really like the soft soil under my paws. Mom says that she would like to pave the entire yard so I will stop bringing in more dirt into the house. I’m just a puppy boy!

Zack’s First B Day - 4.1.12

I don’t know why they picked April Fool’s Day for my birthday, but I had such a good time today. We celebrated my first birthday with a traditional roast B Day chicken and long walk at my favorite doggie park. I’m still on leash, but my big brother Magic showed me the ropes. He speaks fluent “dog”and is teaching me how to be cool with the other dogs. Hot chicken is delicious! I shared it with Magic and Kira, but just a little at a time. I can’t wait till Magic’s birthday in May, when we’ll get birthday meat loaf.

Diary of the Day - 4.3.12

Today my page was selected as Diary of the Day. What an honor! Must have had something to do with my birthday chicken.
This morning Mom and I went to obedience class. She was very proud of me and then we went to the dog park. I'm still on leash, but I got to say "HI!" to a few doggies. I can't wait till I can run off leash. We're still working on a reliable recall. Mom says that next week after class she'll put me on a 20' line to practice. Hope everyone is having a beautiful spring day!

Training Zack - Aug. 29, 2012

I'm pretty busy these days. Dad and I just got back from intermediate obedience class. I aced the class and the instructor was surprised how mellow I am for a German Shepherd. I like to pace myself.
Tomorrow Mom and I go for Nosework class. I REALLY like this class 'cause I get to find turkey hot dogs and cheese in a pile of boxes. Now that I'm in the next level class, I'm also searching for birch as a scent. Eventually I'll just be looking for birch. When I find it I get a food reward. It s a win-win situation for me 'cause I love to eat.
The best part about all this training is that I now get to run in the parks off leash. I LOVE THIS! Mom and Dad trust me off leash and I get to play with other dogs too. Life is good!

Zack's DNA Report - 9.15.12

I just got my DNA tested recently. Mom was curious because some of my behavior is a bit different for a German Shepherd. Here are the results of the test: I'm 50% German Shepherd, 25% White Swiss Shepherd, and 25% German Short Hair Pointer.
White Swiss German Shepherds were made a separate breed in Switzerland in the 1960s, but they are very close to German Shepherds. And German Short Hair Pointers like to dig and bay. I can dig all day long in the yard and yodel. Mom is just thrilled by this. Part of our yard is beginning to resemble a lunar landscape. But, she says she still loves me. The German Short Hair Pointer will also help me with my nosework.
I'm still taking nosework and obedience classes. And I chewed off my tracking harness because Mom forgot to take it off me on the way home. Doesn't she know I need to be free? Now I've got a new purple harness. It was time to upgrade. On my way to a nice long hike....talk to you later.

Zack's Second Birthday - 4/1/13

Hi Everybody,

Thanks so much for all your special birthday wishes! What a nice surprise! My mouth watered as I patiently waited for the annual Birthday Chicken to arrive. Mom sang then helped me blow out the candles. And Kira, Magic Man and I enjoyed a bit of tasty roast chicken. Delicious!

I also got some special toys, a run in the park and a bath. Dad says I have now grown from an obnoxious one-year-old to a terrible two-year-old German Shepherd. I still love my belly rubs and Mom calls me "Zack-o-licious". I'm a very happy guy.
