Arrival Story:
We were looking for a dog to join our family and decided that it would be better to adopt a dog than to buy from a breeder. We visited the local SPCA, and did not really find any animal that we just had to have (of course, I would have LIKED to have had all of them). Later that week we went to Animal Services (aka the pound). That was so sad, much worse than the SPCA! There were cages and cages of dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies. The animal services people had four puppies in a pin outside next to them at their table. We reached in a picked them up - and Roxy gave her mommy a kiss on the chin. Alas, that won us over, and we took Roxy home after her shots and spaying! We felt bad because we couldn't adopt any more (living in an apartment is bad enough with one dog) because she had a brother. We prefer to think that he is in a home with loving parents too!

Bio:
When we brought Roxy home, she automatically fell in love with Granny and all of Granny's animals - including the Minature Dachsund Leisel! When we finally brought Roxy to Gainesville and to school, we could tell that she missed Leisel, but she was more than happy to be the center of attention. Roxy has had more than her fair share of vet problems - mange, ringworm, & tapeworms! It was not cheap or easy, but we've made it through. Her weight has leveled out around 35 pounds, which is just about the perfect size for an urban dog!
