Arrival Story:
It was July 6, 2009. I had just been laid off of my job and on my way to the unemployment office when I saw a skinny young boxer walking down the middle of the highway. I thought some people in a van had thrown her out, but I think maybe they were just driving slowly past her. It was incredibly hot and I felt sorry for the poor beast walking in the middle of the road. So, I pulled off to the side and opened my car door and she ran right over and bounded right into the car. I took her back to my house and of course my husband and kids wanted to keep her. I said we had to find out if she had an owner first, since I figured she'd probably run off from somewhere from being scared of fireworks. And, to add to that, I wasn't so keen on another mouth to feed since I had just been laid off. So I took her around the neighborhood I found her near and couldn't find anyone who knew her. One lady said she'd tried to catch her earlier in the day, but she wouldn't come to her (hmmm...maybe the dog was on to something, since she ran right up to me)...then I took her to the vet and had her scanned for a chip. She had none. I left my name and number with the shelters and vets along with her description, and no one ever called about her. We fell in love with this dog almost immediately. She is the smartest, sweetest, most loving dog we've ever had. I'm glad we were both in the right place at the right time. She is a member of our family. My girls call her their sister and my husband and I say she is our child together, since we both have children from previous marriage. I cannot believe no one ever looked for this dog. She is a blessing.
