Arrival Story:
I had been wanting a dog for a while, and looking for adoptable ones online at PetFinder.com. One month after my husband and I got married, we went to Petsmart while they had a rescue there with adoptable dogs. I initially went to look at an Australian Cattle Dog mix, but my husband and I both saw Kai and thought she was a very cute and cool looking dog. We asked the lady in charge if she could bring her out of the crate, and when she did, she handed the dog to my husband. At that moment the scared little 6 month old puppy peed all down his shirt, she was trembling and had her tail between her legs. We both liked her so much though, that we decided to adopt her anyways! They told us that she was born in a shelter in California, but it was a kill shelter and luckily the rescue we got her from saved her and her 3 siblings! She was the shyest dog I had ever met. For days she wouldn't come out of the corner, she would barely take food from us, we had to carry her down 3 flights of stairs just to take her to the bathroom. Then she would not go, even after sitting outside for an hour almost every time. We kept working with her, and she started warming up to us. We taught her how to walk on a leash, we potty trained her, and I took her through a training course. After almost 4 months now, she is the most wonderful, happy, sweet, and loyal dog. She is extremely smart and I plan on training her to be a disc dog, as well as a therapy dog.
