Arrival Story:
I saw Walter running down the street in front of my house on May 1, 2009. He had his tail between his legs and looked scared. I went outside and he had stopped about a half block down where some young kids were playing. That person said he did not know the dog, so I told him I would call the Humane Society. He was such a friendly little dog and let me pick him up. As we walked home, I told him I would find his mama for him. I got home and my dog Molly Anna and he got along ok. I called the police department because it was the weekend and the Humane Society was closed. I told them that if anyone called, I had a white fuzzy dog. As I was talking, I looked down at the "white fuzzy dog" and realized that no one was going to come for him. His hair was matted over his eyes and he had dirt clumped to his chin whiskers and his tummy. I immediately got a lump in my throat because I hurt so for this poor little dog. He had the most peculiar oder too. It wasn't like doggy poor or the basement...I just can't explain it. I decided that probably he should have a bath. His hair was so matted it was hard to do. He didn't seem to mind the bath, but it was hard to get him dry. I put him in my large dog crate in my bedroom at night and he cried for about 10 minutes but then laid down and went to sleep. The next day, I got the idea he was housebroke and the next day, I really believed he was. Monday, with heavy heart I decided to take him to Humane Society. I cried all the way out there and the manager probably really wondered about me, because I cried all the time I was talking to her. I went and visited my "Needy" little dog every day and took him for a walk. After about a week someone decided to adopt him. It was with mixed emotion, but it was a family that had a little girl and "Needy" liked kids. In three days they brought him back because the day was alegeric to dogs. So for another week I visited Needy. Then a young lady decided to adopt him. He was going to another state. I had it all built up in my mind that someone was going to use him for bait in dog fights. So I had the Humane Society try to keep track of him and she finally called. To my relief the young lady sent pictures, and then I felt 100 per cent better. Six month later she called and she said that she worked all day and Needy cried so all day he made himself sick. She wondered if I would like to adopt him. I had felt so bad for so long, I was so glad he was coming back. So we met and she brought all his toys and treats. Molly Anna went along and we have been a family ever since. She had named him Walter and he responded to that so I kept that name. I fell in love with that little dog when I was talking on the phone to the police department reporting that I had found him. He looked up at me with his big black eyes and he had me from that minute. It is hard to understand how he was dirty and he was so skinny. At some point someone must have held him alot because he thinks he is a lap dog and likes to roll over in my lap and have his tummy rubbed. He also likes the "dog chair" I have by the window so he can look outside. He has a fenced yard and he has made some friends because he brings in dog biscuits that are not of the variety that I buy. He is a sweet lovable litle fellow and I am glad someone turned him loose before he died of starvation, but I wished they would have called the Humane Society or at least have tied him up at their buiding. I think he is happy here...I wonder though often if he thinks about the person who used to hold him. That person probably ahd to give him up. I told Walter if that person were still around and if I could I would take him there if he wanted to go back. He came back to me twice, but I love him enough to let him go where ever he wanted to be.

Bio:
Walter was probably about 3 years old when I found, according to the manager at the Humane Society.
