Leave a bone for Krisee Caramel

Nicknames: Krisee Cannonball, Bon Mamaissalle, Bonehead

Quick Bio:
Likes: Me, neighborhood tours, runnin loose in special places, playing with Buster, and having the stick

Pet-Peeves: water, big dogs, me leaving, someone at the door when I'm home, my denial of wayside chicken bones or other foraged foods

Favorite Toy: Sticks, nasty remnants of "chuck a duck", "air kong", and "flying squirrel". An intact frisbee, and sometimes the squeeky thing. But sticks, really. -The kind that grow on trees.

Favorite Food: Greenies! Also, morsels of heaven fallen on the kitchen floor while clumsy people try to feed themselves.

Favorite Walk: To a fine hilly and desolate stretch near a river so polluted from car emmission run-off that 60% the water's catfish have cancer. Before arriving at this wonderful spot, we pass an area teeming with squirrels -a highlight for Krisee.

Best Tricks: Heel, sit, lay down, and stay.....with hand signal commands people! I'm so impressed! Joy is had when neighborhood kids play the Wait-Okay-Game. Kid holds stick (best toy ever) and commands "Wait". Krisee waits until the kid says, "Ok"

Arrival Story: 4 house-mates against 1, lets give this dog a home. 1 house-mate relinquishes, "Ok, I'm cool with a two week trial." That was me by the way. I don't know if dude was hard at hiding something, or didn't know, but Krisee was not 4 years old and a virgin as he said. She was around 1.5 years old and had very recently had a litter of pups. I learned this slowly as I was visiting vets and getting her papers. After just a couple months of walking adventures, stupid crazy amounts of love and affection, and so much good behavior, I knew it was Krisee for life. Then my house-mates dog became my dog. Really she's just another house-mate, I just played it like that so he wouldn't take her when he left the house.

Bio: We are in an area hyper sensitive to pitbulls. There is a tradition with pitbulls that carried strongly around here, DC and PG county MD. PG county responded to the casualties of the exploitive industry with a ban, legalizing immediate kidnapping and euthanizing of pitbulls. People in my region (Northeast DC, 2 blocks from the border of PG county MD) recognize these dogs and are usually afraid, or ask to buy her on the spot or any pups she has. Kids are the exception and are almost always enthralled and approaching. Everybody is treated the same with me encouraging Krisee to "Meet cha friend!" Meeting so many people is not unsought. A strategy of mine was to be very open with Krisee in this sensitive area, for her sake largely and for the hood too. While I work to ensure my new house-mate's (krisee) socialbility, I make a common sight of a beautiful pitbull behaving superbly. It worked as many neighbors know me, Krisee, and how cool we are, and Krisee has grown less jumpy and startlesome of strangers. We've become such a common friendly being outside on the streets, that even on the PG county side the police are tolerant and one specificly is very trustworthy, more like a neighbor than a cop in his manner. My area is as sketchy as our income levels would indicate in Northeast urban coastal U.S.A., and walking a dog around a couple blocks discourages any sketchy schemes from carrying through. I've seen it happen. I've seen oppression in the makings cool down because nosey neighbor was walking his dog. So walk your dogs, know your neighbors, and you'll practicly be patrolling. You can accomplish the goodies of patrolling without the attitude of some superior cowboy hero, but instead with greetings and smiles and patience for the kids while you get your dog-walk on. Then maybe the police won't need to come around so much.

Today at the park we saw some friends we shared with Buster. Elly, Zydeco, and their folks Cindy and Kim. There was a point when I called to Krisee, "wait" when I spotted a woman and child walking by. I wanted to leash her up while I guaged the situation. Krisee didn't wait. We need to work on wait. We need to do this stuff around her buddies so she learns to listen every time. I might carry around some chicken, or sausage bits, something she'll do anything for....anything like climb a tree.

Buster was Krisee's best friend. The beagle was one of those super excited dogs...running here and there, jumping on you and licking at whatever. His human, Ward, would let him loose and walk long through the woods. Buster many times would abandon Ward, and Ward would just wait in his truck till Buster came around again. When Me and Krisee came around, Buster would play with Krisee the entire time. Krisee always got the best excercise from a day with Buster. He would lead her on an almost constant chase, getting her to jump through water even. Buster played with all the dogs like that, got them all into playing. I called Ward today and heard Buster caught the bad end of an automobile about 5 days ago. We'll have to visit Ward soon. Krisee had no other friend like Buster.

Tonight we ran into Willy, whose barks sound like the voice of an old man, and Jahara, who is kept from approaching Krisee every time they meet. My favorite though is their feline mate, Morris. He is so sociable, he is hardly fased by Krisee's effort to scare him away. The first time they met was such a refreshing exchange. Instead of scurrying from Krisee's jolt, as most cats do, Morris applied the classic cat nudge and lean into Krisee's chest while she stood there head high, looking down at him.
